Help with rabbit housing size
Hi everyone,
As I said in the meet and greet section, I am a veterinary student in London, and currently doing a project on the size of hutches sold in pet shops and whether or not they are adequate for most common pet rabbits.
I am struggling to find the average height/length of various breeds of rabbits such as dwarf lops and the cross breeds sold in pet shops, as I need the measurements of a fairly large number of rabbits, and am having difficulty finding enough in my area.
If possible, could any of you tell me:
The breed and age of your pet rabbit(s)
The length of your rabbit(s) if they are lying fully stretched out (with their back legs stretched out behind them). From the tip of their front legs to tip of their hind legs.
It would also be great if I could get their approximate weight as well.
Don't worry if you can't make the length measurement massively accurate and can't get close to them without disturbing them, just comparing them to a wall or object they may be lying against would be good enough. e.g. they are lying against a 4 ft long wall and take up about half of it so they are about 2 ft. Or making note of where they come to on the object and just measuring that after.
Thanks very much for any help you can give me everyone, it is greatly appreciated!

Re: Help with rabbit housing size
Hi and welcome to HH
I'm going to try to have a guess at this:
The breed and age of your pet rabbit(s)
Bruce is a giant... I don't know much more beyond that. He was abandoned, we THINK he is approaching 1.5, 2 years but we aren't sure. He is a fully-grown adult.
Josephine is an albino mini lop. She is 1 year and 9 months old.
The length of your rabbit(s) if they are lying fully stretched out
Bruce - approx 80cm.
Josephine - approx 35cm.
Approximate Weight
Bruce is 4.3kg.
Josephine is 1.6kg.
I hope that helps! Good luck with your studies

Re: Help with rabbit housing size
Thanks for all the help so far guys, this is really useful.
Has anyone else managed to measure their rabbits, as lots of measurements will be greatly appreciated!
Also, if it's any easier (not sure if it would be), measurements of how tall your rabbits are when they rear up, from the tip of their ears (if they stick up ) to the floor would be fine.
Thanks again for all your help so far!

Re: Help with rabbit housing size
I have the weights of some of my rabbits, but not lengths, as I don't have a ruler or even anything to approximate a length to.
Vivi - 2KG
Kuja - 2KG
Lani - 2.6KG (Overweight)
Daisy - 1.4KG (Underweight)
The others I haven't done yet. Ill try to get it sorted! And find a ruler...

Re: Help with rabbit housing size
I did go out and do this, but couldn't find a tape measure. Will do it again when I go home as I think it's a really good thing to do.

Re: Help with rabbit housing size
I measured Bea she's 33-34cm and 1.7 KG (Which I suspect is slightly overweight), couldn't get her height, she wouldn't stand up for me. Ill try and get the other rabbit's lengths tomorrow, since I found a tape measure.
