Heating My Bunny Outhouse
My trio are stressing me. Since I have had old man Chance he has been an indoor bun. But this year he and his husbun Ratman have fallen in love with my giant and moved outside (of their own accord) to live with her. Chance is around 11 we think and although he is more than able to do what makes him happy, I am worried about him getting too cold out there. I have filled the outhouse with straw and little nooks for him to snuggle into with his big lady and his husbun (I know an unconventional love triangle ), but I am still really concerned about him getting too cold. So I am now left with 2 options. I could bring him in and really upset the apple cart for all of them. Bella my giant will come in and out through the cat flap but likes the outdoors really, or I could find some way of heating the outhouse, so they can all stay out there together. It isn't a very fancy outhouse and would not be able to have central heating in it, but it does have electric. How could I do this safely... suggestions?
Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
if there is electric have you thought about something like a heated towel thingee.....fixed somewhere high on the wall just to keep the edge off??

Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
[b]Bunnys are suposed to be hardy and not require or like it hot not our mad bunny Ruffin in any weather her favorit room is the one where we dry clothes a small box room that has an oil filled radiator that runs all the time. we recon the heater is her best friend as she snugles it so much but then for a big bunny she is a whimp. Oil filled rads come in all sizes and can be quite cheap to run I would tend to put a plug in earth leakage breaker on it quite cheap from places like B & Q it can save flying bunny syndrome I am an industrial electrition so tend to think of things like that especialy after Ruffin bit through the Chritmas tree lights a couple of years back and ended up doing olimpic style manouvers.

Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
I've got my pet rats in my shed and I heat it with a cheap frost prevention heater, got it for about £20 from b&q.
It's not hot enough to properly heat the shed but it stops it dropping to freezing.
Like rabbits the rats don't cope very well if it gets too hot so this just stops them getting a chill

Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
I have seen dog beds with in-built heaters in them - a bit like electric blankets. Could this help?
Also would it be an option to take chance inside just for the nights when it is coldest? Bella could always visit him inside during the nights and that way he would be warm?

Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
I think he will have to come in at some really cold times. However am going to try minimise it as don't wanna mess his body up. I am thinking oil filled radiators? Will be investigating a few of the things you guys have suggested too..

You could shut the door and spend the day doing the 'Thriller' dance, repeatedly. It'll warm them up and keep them well happy

dimplex greenhouse heaters - that is what they are called! Just had to check with my ex. Here is an example (mine was 2nd hand - these are new):

Loving this idea!
Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
don't worry about firehazard - they are made to be low risk and have a grill over them. pirate's fur wafts around like floating firelighters and nothing ever happens.

Re: Heating My Bunny Outhouse
The one I've got is a cheaper version of the one shown above and it's fantastic. We've got it wall mounted so it's at just the right level, it would be easy to mount up high well away from buns and any bedding to take away the fire risk. They also use a lot less electricity than our old oil filled heater.....that cost a small fortune to run
