Pricey vaccinations! Empty Pricey vaccinations!

Post by Vickie Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:44 pm

I've just taken Harvey & Daisy for their myxi jabs and my jaw must've hit the floor when they said it was £27.50 each!! Ouch! I know my local vet is a bit on the pricey side but the price of vaccinations seems to have gone up a lot.
How much do people here pay?

They also suggested I go back in 6 months for boosters. It's the first time this has been mentioned to me. What does everyone here do - every 6 months or yearly?

Carlton's myxi was £26-ish. I can't remember exactly how much. *but* this included a check up so i could tell you how much the jab was alone.

I assumed that myxi was every 6 months but got a card (6 months is up now) and it said the usual "your check up is due" etc and handwritten on it was "we are suggesting 6 monthly vaccs at this present time" so i'm a bit confuzzled!

is it because there's a higer risk in the summer? i have no idea.

Not commenting on the PVC Wink Laughing

Do you get charged a consult fee for each bunny as well as the vaccination? I think most places charge between £12-£18 and more than £20 is considered to be edging on expensive. Prices can differ drastically in vets in the same area. We shall probably continue using our old vets for vaccinations as they were much cheaper but our new vet for problems.

I paid £29 each at my old old place - the place who failed to diagnose a smelly tooth cavity infection in Jack even though she smelt rotten and had oozing pus. Was not impressed No

used to get them for £11 at uni

Bertie's Myxi was £18 last time, and VHD, £17.50.
We opt for a 6 month Myxi top up because we've been advised that Hampshire is a high risk area, so a boost is worth it, but I don't think that it's necessary unless you do live in a high risk area, although a lot of people still opt for it to be safe. Smile

Exactly! I was talking to my friend at work about this today. It's amazing there are such huge price differences for the same vaccination. Rabbit lovers like us are going to get our pets vaccinated whatever the cost but I'm sure there are lots of rabbit owners who would be put off because of the price.

I rang a couple of other local vets today just out of interest and they charged around £20 each. I think it's time to give my vet the boot. They're not exactly rabbit savvy either.

Why can't Simon move to Leicester??? Sorry Laura but I want to steal him!
