Hi Andrea, Sonic and all your children too.

Please do post any questions you might have we are always always happy to help.

Looking after a bun is more trixy than people think, and we have all been on a learning curve.

The most important things with a bun are :

1. Space to move and behave naturally
2. Correct Diet
3. Oddles of love and patience.

Is he a house bun or an outdoor bun?

We have people on here who have either or both and we are a very friendly bunch too......

Feel free to join in the chatter and ask as many questions as you like.

Hi Andrea,

The most important thing for his diet is a good quality Hay.

Adult Bunnies are supposed to eat 80% hay and grass, and then 10% Greens, and 10% nuggets, if you choose to give them to them.

Its best not to feed a muesli mix as this encourages the bun to only eat the bits they like and therefore not get as much nutrition as they should. So a pellet is better.

It is slightly different for baby/young buns. Im not an expert on this but someone will be along soon who can give you some specific advice about what he should be eating at his age.

Well done on the bum check - that should be done every day really at this time of year.

Hi andrea!
Im just about 2 mnths ahead of u on the bunny knowledge quest, mine are 14 wks now and this forum has taught me sooo much.
The most important thing for now is to continue feeding sonic what the pet shop gave him and as u learn more about the best diet make the changes very gradually, as they have very sensitive stomachs. If u post on here what he is eating, how much, when, and brand of pellet someone very clever will i am sure advise u what to add, remove or increase over a period of time.
Is ur son with ASD high functioning? If so, depending on his age he may find reaserching how to care for sonic a really interesting project!
I have a 9 yr old little girl who has read every book she can find and is great with our rabbits, in a way she is too good- i noticed a wet mark on one of the rabbits yesterday and my daughter told me felix had licked her so she licked her back!
Hope sonic is settling in well x

Hi Andrea and welcome to the forum, Love the name Sonic Very Happy

I'd suggest having a look through the Rabbit care articles and buying a good book, as you can study at will. As a good start to houserabbit keeping, I'd suggest.. Living with a House Rabbit ( the authors were the founders of the Rabbit Welfare assoc). Also, have a look therough the You-Tube channel, there's a couple of videos on there about house bunnies and destruction, as well as some general care videos etc.

Please just ask for any help, we all started somewhere, and no question is a daft one. Looking forward to seeing pics of Sonic Wave

the only problem i have with the pellet diet hes on is that the pet shop were feeding him on some form of rabbit pellet that they weigh and bag there selves and when i asked them the brand name they couldnt tell me ive being in touch with a vet this morning regards sonics diet and they said he must have a good quality hay to feed off of but thats puzzling me as theres so many diffrent ones to choose from plus a good quality pellet food and the pellet food ive just got him is the burgess excel junior and dwarf pellet so my plans are to introduce this slowly over the nxt 7-10 days

Sounds like a brilliant plan.

You need a meadow hay really - there are lots out there like you say, so its a matter of finding one he likes. Its a try it and see situation im afraid.

I get my hay from www.thehayexperts.co.uk they do all different kinds.

Some people get it from farms and some from pet shops. There isnt really a rule, just go with what is right for you, and what sonic will munch on.

My bun has burgess excel and he really enjoys them.
