Dunno if anyone has got this prob with their male buns but our roman has a realy dirty winky, you can see it as he hops away and I thought it was his bum but when I picked him up the other day and had a closer look its it the folds that keep his winky in. God I feel Embarassed writing this lol. someone said I should clean him by pulling the pad back and use a cotton bud as its just a build up of his scent???

I dunno, not sure what to do. Is he prone to infection??

Is this coming from 2 slits either side of the genitals? If so these are Roman's scent glands - I had a vet explain this to me once after I was a bit unsure with Bruce when he was young. They can get a build up of a brown waxy substance in there and it is quite smelly. The girls have them as well although the smell is slightly different. If there is a build up of the substance you can clean them using vaseline and some cotton buds - but be warned it is a horrible and very smelly job and you might want to use a clothes peg on your nose!

Yes there the scent glands or vents and if they are not cleaned they can get infected.

Well we check the scent glands/vent's when we handle them and if they look a bit full we just clean them out. It's like a strong musky smell but just be very gentle when you are cleaning them as it's a very delicate area, don't try to pick it out at all as it can pull the skin.

Good luck Smile

yeah I think it was cos we dont hold him that much just to put him in his hutch at night with a quick feel over, so him being on his back he wasnt happy at all.

Being on his back won't make him happy. Bruce is terrible for any handling of this type. Once turned over I often start by holding one foot at a time to accustom him to my touching him in that area. I don't attempt to touch anywhere else until he has stopped reacting when I touch his feet. If possible try to hold him more upright than on his back as the 'trancing' position is really stressful for them.
