Poor peanut...what next
WAS titled E.cuniculi
Hey again, you all know taffie is making progress but I went out this morning and there is something very wrong with peanut as if she cant see or has had a fit or stroke. I am waiting for my appointment at vets at 2.30 but have already spoke to her and they are concerned it may be the above. After a bit of research this may be why I have lost dylan, cookie and zack and yet no previous vet on numerous trips to the vets with symptoms has thought to check. As you can understand I am pretty angry at this point that it may have been preventable. Cookie was at the vets soooo many times and all I got was "give her anti biotics and see what happens". The vet we have now is amazing and although we lost our cats last year it was thanks to her that every feline professor in the Uk and many abroad were looking into the rare case. I have lost 3 of my babies since may and will be fuming if it could have been treated. Fingers crossed for peanut but after taffie I am really struggling with vet bills!

Re: Poor peanut...what next
It does sound very much like E.Cuniculi but you never know. I found with one of my buns 'Betty Boo' she suddenly started with the darting eyes and I knew then it was e.cuniculi but she went on to have three fits that night and we took turns to cuddle and calm her down and while Mike was holding her she just went to sleep and never woke up again
She had been a happy and healthy bun until that day when she started with her eyes and she was just sat still as if she wasn't quite with us.
You will know more after being to the vet's what it is.
Sending mega Vibes for Peanut and hope he will be ok xxxxxxxxxxx
Keep us posted on Peanut please.

Re: Poor peanut...what next
Just back now that the vets seen her she doesn't think she is a typical case. She seen pics where she was sitting with her head off but its not actually a tilt which is where this came from. We talk to her outwith the vets thats why she saw pics before appointment.
Anyways she can see even though her pupils dont dilate that fast she has all sensation but it was hard to tell what wasn't their and what was laziness from peanut. She is VERY tender on one vertebrae in the middle of her back so the vets more convinced its a twist or fall injury. She is to get anti biotics, anti inflammatory for her back and in-case there is anything on the brain and because she seems to have not eaten over night and today with the pain she has to get some of taffies medication which thankfully I have the whole bottle of. If she doesn't improve in the next 3 days we will run bloods and I am going to try and raise some money to have all 4 blood tested/screened because I have had too many issues and death for it to be coincidence and all bar 2 of the rabbits I have had are from the same place.

Re: Poor peanut...what next
Thanks, you lot are all great. Everyone else says "its just a rabbit". The only good news is taffies nose is scabbed up and healing nice and she eats a bit of everything I put down to her now, I even caught her with her face in the food bowl earlier.
Re: Poor peanut...what next
Aw, sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with your buns
As to "it's just a rabbit"...
I get so angry every time I hear that, quite often in pets at home when parents are giving into a 6 year old who wants a rabbit.
Really crossing fingers that Peanut is ok xx

Re: Poor peanut...what next
I know some of you have cuddly buns that sit on your knee and cuddle you endlessly, mine are well handled and like me but they lead rabbit lives in groups and prefer to do what they like when they like with each other but as you lot can probably tell it doesnt mean I love them any less.

Re: Poor peanut...what next
She just nibbled me!! She obviously isnt good with needles haha. 1 anti inflammatory down, 2 to go.
Re: Poor peanut...what next
Taffie please get well! Healing vibes and lots of coming your way via air mail!
If it is a spinal injury, don't get talked into having her PTS. Physical therapy can work wonders and give a good quality of life. (Unless there is unbearable pain involved of course )

Re: Poor peanut...what next
Last night after her baytril and stuff she was much brighter, going out in a few minutes for her injection again and will see how she is.
Re: Poor peanut...what next
Phew good news, all their normal selves, all eating vegies and some oats to get a bit weight back on and peanuts even having a wee binky. I am not convinced it was just a fall because neurologicaly she wasnt with it yesterday morning but point is they are ok. Will take some pics later for a nice thread not a bad news one haha

Oh mine are far from that And of course that doesn't mean you love them any less! I'm the same, my pair live outside and I don't get to see them as much as people with house buns do, but it doesn't mean I don't love them any less. I dote on the pair, I don't know where I'd be without them.
I'm sending lots of vibes for your lot and for you.

Don't be daft, no-one thinks that - we all keep them how we keep them, and as long as they're happy, it's kool
I'm glad there's been some improvement, I can so understand your feelings about it, I'm really sorry, you've had such a hard time

Re: Poor peanut...what next
All eating, peanut is tired but no wonder. Got to get her last anti inflammatory at 9pm exactly plus baytril and fibreplex. Other than being a bit lazy she is normal.

Re: Poor peanut...what next
It is a horrid feeling isn't it dear? Snuffles looks aas if he has passed sometimes and my heart goes in my mouth. However, when I put a piece of tomato or other goody in front of him, he sprins up like a one year old LOL!!

Re: Poor peanut...what next
she has done it 3 times today but I think its because they have more of an enclosed bed again which she used to be really lazy in. She doesnt bother if you are about when she is flat out either.
