Hello
Hi All,
Sorry for the unimaginative title, but that's just what this is, a hello and brief introduction.
I have owned rabbits since i was 16, when i was considered old enough not to get bored. It was worth waiting for, and i have become deeper and deeper in love with rabbits ever since. I have learnt a lot from experience, like if you have neutered male and female together they will breed, and if you get in between two fighting rabbits, prepare to be bitten! I still have the scar to that nearly 20 years on! I have also learnt that not having rabbits vaccinated leaves them susceptible to catching VHD or Mytsy, that when you have one with it, others will get it and 99.9% of the time they don't recover ( i had one that survived Mytsy)
Despite all this i don't feel i know everything, and am always open to new ideas, thoughts and advice.
I currently have a single rabbit as her bonded partner recently dropped dead for absolutely no apparent reason, so am now looking to fill the space for her and find her a partner to bond with again... so watch this space as you may be hearing more from me as i seek advice on this.
All for now,
Rabbit

Re: Hello
Thanks for the welcomes,
Tia is bored with a capital B on her own and is really looking forward to having a friend.
Not only does she look odd on her own, having been with Aphrodite (Aphi) for the last 2 years, she looks as if she doesn't know what to do with herself. She just sort of wanders round, kicking her heels with 'i dunno now what do i do?' look about her. Hopefully soon i will have something sorted for her. Trouble is our nearest rescue is about 30 miles away, and they don't have anybun suitable at the moment....

Re: Hello
Wishing you a warm welcome from the USA! I know you will love it here. Everyone
is so friendly. I'm eager to hear more about your bunny and you.
I live in Oklahoma which is more in the center of the country. My husband and I
lost our rescue bunny, Thumper, several months ago. We now have an 8 month
old Lionhead/English spot cross names Rory. We had been told that Rory was a
girl. Surprise! Angelica became Rory several days ago. He's an incredibly cute
fellow. Loves to run and binky. He has an amazing ability to find the smallest
gap where wires have escaped their protective covers!

Re: Hello
Hello Everybody,
Thanks for all the welcomes! Wow so many hellos...!
Today has been a good day on the rabbit front.Today, from freecycle i picked up an enormous rabbit hutch in need of a bit of TLC, but we can do that, no problem, so thats a good start.
I also spoke to a lady today, who i heard of through someone on freecycle, who has just rescued 7 bunnies dumped in a box in a public park. As luck would have it, she works for a vet, which is how she came to rescue them, and has had them all neutered, and vaccinated. She has told me about one called Smartie, who she cant home with children as he bites when taken by surprise. He is brown lop she says. Well i love rabbits with problems, and have no young children so he sounds like the one for me!
She is going to email me photos of him, and hopefully by next w/e we will have a nice big hutch for him to live in, on his own to start, until he and Tia feel comfortable about moving in together. He has not long been castrated, so wont be able to meet face to face with Tia for a few weeks, but they can use that as getting to know each other time..
I'm just soo excited, i cant wait! My avatar picture is of Tia, and when i get pictures of Smartie, i will post them too.

Re: Hello
Aww, she's cute! I have a black bun too
Sounds like your plans are coming along nicely! Do you plan to have Tia spayed? Bonding will be much easier if you do. Less hormones flying around

Re: Hello
I don't know if she is already spayed, she was an RSPCA bunny.
Other than that, if she isn't, then i'm not planning on it, unless she gets really ******, then i will consider it.
At the moment she is quite calm for a single bunny. She went through a grumpy stage, for a few days after loseing Aphi, but now seems to have calmed down again.

Hello, and welcome to HH
This is a lovely forum with very friendly members. There is a huge variety of really kind people here - some with loads of bunnies, some with just one, and a wealth of knowledge and advice
I am sorry to hear about your loss. Thinking of you and sending hugs
Tia is beautiful and Smartie sounds a lovely little chap! If Tia came from the RSPCA she is more than likely neutered - my Mojo is an RSPCA bun and it is standard procedure for my branch to neuter and vaccinate all buns before they leave. Good luck with the bond!

Re: Hello
Well Smartie is due to arrive next w/e now.I had hoped to have him today, but the hutch isnt finished yet, so he has to wait.
We picked up an old, very large, hutch from freecycle 'in need of a bit of tlc'... well the floor was rotted out, the back leaked, the roof was falling apart and the whole thing wobbled very worryingly! So my wonderful partner has been renovating it for me and ultimately it will be double skinned and insulated! Once Smartie has been accepted by Tia, it is planned they will both move into the big hutch together. Tia did used to manage to share her single size hutch but it was a bit cramped.
In the meantime Tia seems to be quite content with her single life, and has become much calmer and more sociable towards me.
Smarties fosterer/rescuer says he is very friendly and comes running up to you as soon as he sees you so hopefully they will be happy together.
i will keep you posted and when the hutch is finished will post pictures of the bunny palace!

Re: Hello
I think Tia is missing her bunny cuddles, she was even more sociable today. I went out to the run this afternoon to get her in, she was sitting on a log, just inside the gate. she looked at me, so i squatted down to her level, stretched my finger out and, instead of the normal thing and running away she put her nose out to meet it. Then after a second time, decided this was enough silliness and went into her hutch, to wait for food to be dished up, then turned round again just to make sure she got another fuss!
This is actually a major breakthrough for me and Tia, as she has never been sociable and always kept herself to herself.
I'm getting very excited about the hutch which has had a bit more work done on it today, in between showers.
