For the past 23 days i have been handrearing a special bunny

When i got the english lops, i put Foggy and Jane Doe in pens beside each other, thought nothing of it until JD started gaining weight.....

31 days later, JD had 4 babies, but instead of having them in a cosy nest she had 4 big babies in the middle of the hutch floor . We moved the babies inside and put them on hot water bottles they were so cold they were near dead, sadly one was too far gone to save . Then when we put the babies back in with Mum she accidentally squashed and killed one .

This left Mole and Wriggle, and they needed to be hand-reared. Thankfully JD is a real human orientated bunny, so she is allowing me to turn her on her back and allow the babies to suckle. Then we would use cotton buds to make the babies wee and poo. We had to keep the hot water bottles warm too.

Sadly wee Mole didnt make it, and on day 10 he was just too weak to carry on .

Wriggle on the other hand is now 23 days and weighs 441g

Wriggle looks the same size as Hector Only 900g to go and she'll be bigger than him, what a little cutie

Going arrrrr doesn't cover it love, the video and photos are super cute. I would love a cuddle.

Wriggle is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen

I can't believe the size of him / her for a 3 week old bun

Are they born with their ears lopped? We're used to buns whose ears lop after a few weeks.

I'm so sorry about the three who didn't make it

I think JD has things worked out just so - I'm not surprised that she's willing to help feed them as she has you doing all the rest of the work

Sparky, the ears are pinned to the bunnies body, like other rabbits, but they are already huge. Sadly Wriggles ear came away too early due to handling (necessary evil) so one is a bit shorter than the other, but yes, they lop from the minute they detach. I must get the early pictures uploaded, from day 2, the progress is incredible.
Wriggle will eat redigrass but refuses to try pellets, thats fine, there is plenty time to get her on solids, only problem is, she is getting too big to sit on mums tummy, she is very advanced for her age, as she gets 2 feeds from mum a day or about 15 mins, she is gaining about 20-30g a day.

Maysie, if ever you needed an excuse to come up, this is it ha ha, Wriggle is amazing (called Wriggle due to the amount of wriggling she does when feeding )

Well I guess Mum only really has to do another week and you have got to wildie weaning age.

Wiggle is certainly very cute. And I am guessing will have a really good bond with you. You are very privileged.
