I gave lexy her meds last night and I read the label wrong and I've given her too much baytril. OH has been in to her this morning and checked and she's OK. I feel so bad I feel sick.

We're going to keep a close eye on her through the day.

If anything happens I'll never forgive myself.

If you have only done it once it should be ok Sue, you can't really overdose them on antibiotics Hugs

I thought I was being helpful as OH was out late - I've never given her them before, and I certainly won't be doing it again. Although I know the correct dose now.

I've not stopped crying since we realised an hour or so ago Sad

Oh Sue, don't beat yourself up. It was an accident and we all make mistakes. We know you would never intentionally hurt Lexy, ever! Hugs

We know quite a bit about abx having had so many snuffly buns - as Maysie said you can't really overdose on them, I'm not sure if any excess is just excreted in the urine. The worst you can expect is maybe an upset tum.

Even the variation between a properly prescribed 'low' dose and a 'high' one is often huge - double or triple.

When you say you wouldn't give them to her again, that is exactly what you should do as you know you would never make the same mistake twice.

Thank you everyone for being so nice.

We just had her out for a cuddle and she seems fine. No sign of tummy trouble.

We are debating when to resume them now.

Is your vet still open to ask for advice?

My inclination would be to give her the usual dose tonight - the risk with antibiotics is that if you don't hit the infection hard enough for long enough it develops a resistance which makes it harder to get rid of. The infection is probably more of a risk to her than the abx.

(Just my 2p-worth, I am not a vet, but it is what I would do if I was in your position.)

We all make mistakes sweetheart and I am just glad you were able to tell us and get lots of support. You wouldn't believe some of the things I have done in the past. She will be fine so don't worry.

Hugs

Looked up the toxicity of Baytril. They had to give 200 times the normal dosage to cause problems. So I wouldn't worry. We all have screwed up with medications a time or ten. One morning I gave myself some of my meds 3 times! Embarassed I was very sleep all day. Sleep
