Terrible News For Chance. U/D :D

I took Charlie in regarding his UTI and took Chance back again as was concerned that his eye looked as though it had swollen up again today. Anyway, it has totally changed in consistency and not responded to the Baytril. The vet was very thorough and had a good look. He said that is it definately an abcsess. He popped it and drained it. It has caused his eyelid to mishape and at some stage his eyelashes have scratched his eyeball. The abscess has attached itself to the bone of his socket and although they could operate and remove his eye, the vet feels it is too close to his brain and doesn't want to risk this. I don't want to risk it either, Chance is an old man who has just found love again and I don't want to put him through that unnecessarily.

He is now on Depocillen and Tribissen injections once a day. He said that this abcsess will prove to be fatal and it is a question of containing it now rather than anything else. I just can't believe this. To say I am gutted is an understatement. Just when he had found love. I knew this was going to happen. I could just feel it. I am more gutted than I can even begin to put into words. Who knows how long I will have left with my beautiful old man

I am so, very Sorry Charlotte I like to believe that everything happens for a reason, as hard as that thought is to maintain in difficult times - You would rather Chance have found love again, than not have, Im sure? Annie has come into your lives for a reason & if that is to help Chance make the most of every second, then it will be worthwhile. I'm just totally shocked by this, I have never heard of it happening from grooming before and can only think the aggrevation has caused an opening for the bacteria to enter.

As the vet can actually get residue out of the eye could you ask if they may be able to C&S it, just to check it is actually penicillin sensitive. It would be an awful shame for him to be on Depo injections an them not be doing any good at all.

Oh Charlotte, I am so sorry. I am thinking of chance and sending lots of healing vibes. I am also hoping that the vet might be wrong, who knows!

Char I don't know what to say, I'm so sorry, I hope there is another way to approach it. Sometimes with us people, someone can come into your life for just a few moments, and leave having made a massive impact on you. This was Annie's role, and Chance has had something amazing because of it.

i am so sorry to hear this Charlotte. it is sad that he has just found love and maybe he is nearing the end of the road and not have much time to enjoy it but as the saying goes better to have lost in love than never to have loved at all and is so lovely that if this is it for him he will die a very happy and loved up bunny. doesn't the vet think that the infection in the abcess might clear up be ok?

I am going to ask for a C and S test. Just need to find the pennies for it. I feel guilty for buying Michale Jackson tickets now when I could have easily afforded they test before The vet said he thought it was pastuerella. But I guess a C and S test would be the only way to prove that. He is so well, you would never know there was anything wrong if you couldn't see the lump on his eyelid. I am trying to stay positive on this. All the vibes you can muster please xxxx

Charlotte I am so sorry. You must be so upset. I really very much hope the outcome is better than we fear. How much is the C&S test? How much have you got to raise?

what is a cand s test? you could sell a couple of tyour MJ tickets on ebay and make enough to buy a house you know!

I am so sorry to hear about Chance's eye taking a turn for the worse. Maybe the abscess was already there when Annie arrived and that is why she was so keen to clean it.

Well the swelling is greatly reduced on his eye this morning. You literally wouldn't know there was thing wrong with him if you couldn't see the lump on his eye lid. I am hoping that my vet is wrong about all this.

It just looks like a scab now. There was a little bit of puss earlier but not alot. :S

Culture & Sensitivity, it checks for the present bacteria and is then grown and tested against various antibiotics to determine what it is susceptible to. They usually cost around £40 and can be very useful diagnostic tools, espcially as they save time faffing about with drugs that may not work effectively.
