He's driving me mad! Mad  Mad
Yes, him... Henry!
He's driving me crazy! Mad  Mad
Why? How?
By being a NORMAL RABBIT!
Yesterday he slipped by me when I was cleaning the crate... then again when I was putting in his supper. All night he has been attacking the bars of the crate and digging up the carpet and generally wrecking the whole thing. This morning he was out before I had hardly got the door open and ... well, I've given in! He's been all over, checking out his old haunts and I've witnessed a few happy binkies! Laughing Laughing Laughing
There's no going back in that crate unless he does himself another mischief. Trying to confine him now would only have him doing himself more harm than good in his determined escape attempts. So, he's loose!
I'm retaining the crate here in the sitting room, with his tray and food in it, just for a while to get him used to going to his tray in here. But, EVERYTHING crossed, he seems like he's his old self again... just the nose to sort out now!

So, it's a wonderful day. And it just got even better when I rang the Dr. about some swabs I had done last week. They are normal (apparently I have a now become a "dried-up old mare". I need HRT). I had a phone consult with the new Dr at the practice, the one I saw for the first time last week, and though we sorted out my prescription we spent far longer talking about RABBITS! She has two houserabbits and we got chatting about what wonderful wee beasties they are. So, I've kinda made a new rabbit friend as well.
Gotta be a good day... Henry binkying Happy Dance Happy Dance  my clean bill of health Happy Dance Happy Dance and a rabbity Dr Happy Dance Happy Dance Happy Dance  Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

He's been quiet today. Some of the old "poorly" things going on, like... no pee (or poo) from 8-00am to nearly 9-00pm today and not much moving around. But he has eaten okay, seeking out food as well and he's tucked in well, especially tonight, and just a few moments ago he did a half binky before launching himself into his litter tray to scoff hay.
It's going to be a slow mending job, months probably, but I think caging him could be a bad move after seeing the exertions of his escape attempts... he could certainly hurt himself more tugging on the bars and digging on the carpet and throwing his earthenware dishes around. So, unless he crashes back then I'm going to have to try and stop being a neurotic mum and stop watching every flick of his whiskers and seeing agony in every blink.

I think you are right darling, especially as he so so much better, caging him could do more harm than good.  Thank you for the continuing updates and I am sending lots of loves and healing vibes with this message.

Yes, a TRULY wonderful morning.
First I got all the routine jobs out of the way... rabbit fed, litter tray cleaned, birds fed, ashes and hearth cleaned, fire lit, the days fuel for fire brought in. Hands washed, breakfast made.
I was having porridge and had decided to have it in the sitting room, beside the fire where I could listen to Henners chomping nuggets.
I had just entered the room and a coal rolled off the fire onto the hearth. Now for an arthritic ancient I do have pretty good reflexes... just a pity my brain can't keep up with them. To prevent the hot coal from possibly falling on my hearth rug I kicked it back across the hearth and with that I kicked common sense away as well for in order to set the coal back on the fire I had to set my porridge bowl on the floor.
Now along with fast reflexes and slow brain I have a touch of OCD.... I cannot bear dust and grime, and the coal had left litter on the hearth so I set about with brush and shovel and cleaned it all up. Then I turned back to my breakfast.....

Bl**dy rabbit.... there he was with his nose in my porridge!

Have you ever seen a rabbit with gooey porridge hung on their whiskers?

Not for me after he'd been drooling in it. I flushed it down the loo and made fresh.

But he did look wonderful.... just like Henry should look, trouble written all over his chops, this time in porridge!

Another wonderful morning!
I dismantled the crate (with Henry's full approval) and it's ready to go back to the vets next week.
It's amazing how big the sitting room feels now it's gone.
I celebrated with a jelly baby (red one, eaten head first!) and Henry had a fenugreek cruncher. We are both happy and relaxed this evening.

So good to hear he is back to his good old self.

I've had to remove his nylon tunnel from the sitting room. He was jumping over it and I don't want him doing that as it might aggravate his injury and bring on a set back. I had enjoyed seeing him pop through the tunnel but when the jumping began I had to be firm. I think a month before he gets it back. Sad, but necessary.
It's been an awful month worrying about him and seeing him suffer. There were times I really thought I would lose him and that I was being cruel keeping him when he was so poorly. The crate time was the worst but Thank Goodness we stuck it out.
One good thing to come out of this horror is that he now accepts his litter tray is in the sitting room and we can settle for an evening by the fire and not worry about toileting.
He is starting to look his old self again. His weight had dropped from 3.55 to 3.45 ... not much but on a lean bun like Henry it showed. Now he's losing the drawn look and his rump is broadening again!

It's not easy keeping a good buck down! I get some right dirty looks when I put on my "Stop it" voice. I can understand why as well, he's only being a happy bun and he's being told off for it. This is almost as bad as seeing him miserable.
