I'm worried about hector Empty I'm worried about hector

Post by Zo Tue May 20, 2014 6:09 am

Went to give him his pellets this morning and he wouldn't even come out of the corner, i went down that end and he's hunched and pushing himself back into the corner, i tried to give him a pellet and he just turned his nose up

This is the rabbit that usually does laps around his cage cause he's so excited about them

He's not touched his water all night, and he's barely touched his hay, I'm worried, should i take him to the vets asap? I'll have to get mum to take him

Hi hunni - yes he needs to get to the vets as soon as possible. First appt this morning. It sounds like he may be in stasis. Until then syringe him some lukewarm water and try to get him moving around a little.

He's really out of sorts too, wants nothing to do with me, had a little feel of his tum and it feels hard, he's also turned down parsley and a crunchie

He's going to the vets asap

Do you think it'd be a good idea to syringe him some mashed up pellets? It's at least another hour til i can take him to the vets

Oh, poor Hector Sad

If he will take the food through a syringe it's a good idea. You need to try and keep his gut moving. Make sure he's getting some water into him though...

Sending loads and loads of vibes for one of my favourite HH buns. And hugs for you. Please let us know Hugs

Just got back from the vets, he's had an injection to stimulate his gut, and he's got zantac syrup and emeprid oral suspension to have for the next few days, they gave me some syringe food too.

He seems a bit perkier and has been moving around more since we got back, I'm going to give him half an hour then give him the first lot of syringe feeding

Did they have a check of him to see what's causing it? Did they have a look at his teeth hunni?

Has he done any poos?

I agree with this. Did they suggest taking him back tomorrow if he is not eating by himself then?

I hope Hector is starting to respond to the meds, moving around is good to get the tummy moving.

Loads of hugs coming your way.

She looked at his teeth and they were fine, but she couldn't quite look at his very back teeth because hector was having none of it!

She said if there's no change in the next 24 hours, or if he gets worse i have to bring him back, but if he brightens up and starts eating then I've got to continue the treatment for 4-5 days and if he's still ok then he's sorted

He's such a pain to give meds too, he took the zantac ok because it tastes nice, but the emeprid he was pushing out of his mouth Mad i managed to get most of it in, in the end, but my god, what a faff.

Going to try him with some herbs and pepper in about half an hour - an hour, if he doesn't eat it then it's back to the syringe!

I'm glad to hear that Hector has produced poops! Always good news!! Very Happy

If you're really struggling with getting the meds into him try putting it inside a Mini Shredded Wheat or wrapping it in something like spinach. If he'll fall for it then it'll make your life a lot easier Thumbs Up

Post by Zo Wed May 21, 2014 6:10 am

I could hear him eating hay last night, and the pellets i left down overnight were gone this morning! He was also sooo much brighter, was doing his usual laps around his cage and grunting for his pellets like normal. I haven't given him any yet cause i wanted to give him his meds first, but I'm hopefull he'll eat them
