CALLISTO the DEGU
Hi! Here are the long awaited pictures of Callisto! So Char you cant be cross with me now I said I would post them tonight and I am!
Great news! We found 3 friends we are adopting so Callisto will soon be joined by Io, Gannymede and Europa! We collect them hopefully this Sunday morning! We are adopting them from a rescue called Furry Friends.
She is much cuter than pictures can show - she makes lovely little sing song squeaky noises. She is very nosy and loves Alex and our cats and nibbles your finger gently to say hi. We havent managed to totally tame her yet as far as holding her she is a squirmy little blighter but the first 48 hrs she was a dream to hold so I hope with perseverance she will settle down. All the degu books, info etc says that they can indeed become very tame. They love massages so I am bribing her with those.
THESE PICTURES ARE WONKY sorry they look fine on photobox & when I put them here they go to the side & I cant get it to work so get your head ready to tilt!
having a snooze in her hammock which she adores!!!
nosy little thing!

Re: CALLISTO the DEGU
That hammock looks seriously snuggly. We need to get you to capture those cute little noises! I wonder how she will react when she meets her new housemates!!! Its so exciting!
Re: CALLISTO the DEGU
oooh the pictures have turned around and arent wonky anymore!
I will try to video her noises sometime! The lady who runs the rescue her 3 friends are coming from isnt worried at all about bonding them she says girls are notoriously easy. We will take Callisto with us to pick the other 3 up in a cat carrier and in the car on the way home they will probably be so worried about the car journey they will snuggle together and be best of friends by the time we get home. She said in the 350 odd degus she has had she has only had a problem (with females) once! I cant wait!
Although (I darent say this on a degu forum) I worry I wont be able to tell who is who once I have them all. When I see degus they usually look the same. And when I see pics of a group its just one cute degu mass. I really want to know who Callisto, Europa, Io & Gannymede are but I just dont think I will!

Re: CALLISTO the DEGU
Is there a way you could maybe clip a bit of their fur in a certain place and then write down which one is identified by which. That way by the time the fur grew back, you would have noticed which degu had which personality and what they liked to do.

Oh Nickie you are brilliant! That's a good idea but Matthew read it and suggested we instead fit them with hats! :lol!:

And that does indeed look like a luxury hammock You can tell she loves it.
Looking forward to seeing her companions - how exciting! Especially if they have hats on :lol!:
