Charlie In Stasis AGAIN Empty Charlie In Stasis AGAIN

Post by Catsknickers Mon Jun 15, 2009 7:36 pm

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh ..... I went out this morning. He ate breakfast. No problems. I came back tonight, gave him veggies, he didn't want them. Picked him up and I can feel an impaction exactly the same as before. I am so stressed, because now I am at work full time it means that I can't personally take him to the vet. So I will have to arrange for either Mum or Damien to do it.

He has had Infacol, warm water, tummy rubs and fibreplex tonight. He is inside in the "sick bay" now so I can keep a close eye. Can I have some vibes for the wee man please. Can't believe he is presenting these symptoms AGAIN.

That is a very good point Sooz, there was terrible thunder over Lincoln today. Apparently the horses were terrified too.

I came home to three very skittish (and soggy) bunnies and a shivering dog. We had three storms today and I have heard of them sending bunnies into stasis before.

Was just about to say it was oral metaclopromide, I've never used it but it seems some vet are more at ease with prescribing it in a non-injectable form.

Hope it does the trick for you. Very Happy

He has had the jab as well. the vet said that as this is the second bout in 3 months, he should now, not have veggies anymore and just have a high fibre diet?! What does he mean. Charlie eats A and P pellets. He is not a big hay eater. What else can I do?

Some vets still seem pretty convinced that stasis is linked to vegetable intake but to be honest I have seen no evidence of this in anything you have mentioned about Charlie, usually there would be an identifiable culprit and probably some bloating or unformed, smelly stools. Greens and vegetables usually cause bloat rather than stasis.

Could you keep a constant supply of probiotics in his water perhaps.

Have you tried him with Readigrass, I use this to increase Lexie's fiber intake. I assume he had his teeth checked out today...

Teeth checked out ok today. No problems. He has eaten some greens and a carrot this evening. At the moment I just want him to keep eating and pooping. He has had all his meds. He is having a wash in his litter tray at the moment. I am convinced it was that thunder yesterday, it was really bad. It even scared me. Not tried him with readigrass. Will put an order in asap. Does anyone know if SS has more fibre than A and P?

A&P (23%) has more fiber than SS (19%). I really think the thunder may have had something to do with it, SJ's two have reacted badly as well. Sad
