Cleaning anal glands Empty Cleaning anal glands

Post by Sixer Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:28 am

Today I noticed BJ has a bit of a stinky butt pale

It seem his anal glands are a bit gunged up. I have cleaned them out using cooled boiled water but am wondering if I could/should have used somehing else. Luckily my nose is bunged up Laughing

After putting him back in his run I went to stroke Gabriel on the way past. How stupid, one whiff of that gorgeous smell and Gabriel nearly had my fingers off.

Despite washing my hands there is still a faint trace of BJ pale

I normally use cooled boiled water on a cotton bud or cotton pad and just wipe them out gently with that. TBH though only one of mine ever needs his doing and that is once in a blue moon anyway. Smile

Thanks Sooz - this is the first time I have done it with any of the bunnies. Hopefully BJ wil not need doing again for a bit!

Urghhhh! They are full of delightful little surprises. I thought this only happened with dogs.

Hope your fingers are OK, Gabriel is obviously as fast as Gloria was last week when she bit mine!

Actually dogs are much more disgusting than rabbits, Poppy has to have her glands expressed every couple of months and the contents are absolutely vile as is the means of emptying them! silent

To have them need emptying or to have them emptied....as I think the answer is yes to both but the relief seems pretty instantaneous.
