Wats the best way of helping
[b]Hi right me back now from Cape Verde 31 degree back to -5 in 8 hours that hurts. as I mentioned before I went away I am going to convert part of my garage so as I can home a few unfortunate bunnies that have found themselves getting a raw deal in life. I have looked at the list of bunns that need a good perminent home but then likewise I have looked at the lists of bunns that need fostering. Both to me seem equaly important so I am asking for veiws from all out there that must have put a lot of thought into this. It will prob be to the end of Feb that the new bunny manor will be finished but I could put a temp hutch or 2 in. Thanks

Re: Wats the best way of helping
What a wonderful thing to do.
Both fostering and adopting are both such wonderful things to do.
For me, I couldn't foster as I know 100% that I would never be able to let them go and I don't think I could cope with the worry if I ever did.
However, there are fosterers here (castwhiskas for one) who do an AMAZING job fostering and make a huge huge difference to buns lives. The fosterers help problem buns settle and deal with their histories and in a lot of cases give them the first love they have ever experienced. Imagine how good that must make you feel. The rewards are endless.
So I think what I'm saying is that its not a decision anyone can advise you on really, its down to you, and how you would feel about letting them go after you have dedicated all that time into turning their lives around.
I'm ashamed to say that I couldn't do it but I do know how important it is. As is giving a loving permanent home to buns.
Someone will be along soon to give you some practical advice im sure.

It is a tough one. It is very hard to let the buns go but you do get better at it as time goes on, however every now and then there is one that you just cannnot part with or whose parting is really hard. This is probably why I have ended up with 6 buns of my own.
Either way you will be doing something great.

there is a 'failed fosterer's club' that you will probably become a member of, when you decide to keep your first foster bun
I think it takes a certain type of person to foster, and if you are that person, then you will be doing a most amazing thing to help many rabbits who pass through your doors
If you become a failed fosterer after the first 2 or three buns, then you may well be better sticking to that. Either way, there will be some very lucky buns with you soon, good luck

I know I couldn't do fostering, I'd just keep them! Having said that I have such an admiration for people who can foster. On a personal level, I would say that if you CAN foster, definitely do it over adopting. But if you can't, just adopt away!
A friend of mine's mother works with the local shelter and takes in the problem animals who are hissing, biting, hate humans etc and turns them into sociable young things. Once they have learnt their manners, she gives them back! She's a true life saver because without fosters a lot of these animals would never be adopted and might be put down.
No amount of thanks could ever meet the kind of effort and love fosters put into their charges, I'm awestruck by their work.
