New addition to the family! Empty New addition to the family!

Post by Indie22 Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:06 pm

Had a long day, went to look at a hairy hamster with my mum and saw a rabbit that my mum told me about ags ago. She was in with about 5 or 6 male guineas who have obviously eaten a large part of her beautifull coat. They were also running up when she was lying down and nipping her ears or running and jumping off her. She has chocolate points and by the coat (even eaten) i'd be sure shes an angora cross or def has angora in her. The assistant took her out an she went nuts kicking etc and didnt want held so she was reluctant to let me hold her but i picked her up and held her to me and she was dead calm. She got groomed the min she got home and bonded with me in the first 20 mins and enjoyed a hug then came out her shell to a confident little monkey. Shes meant to be 8-9 weeks but they dont know we know how long shes been there an we estimate closer to 4 months but will be a big girl

Her coat has a lot of growing to do! I am keeping her on litter and straw so her coat doesnt act as a hoover.

I did have somewhere to put her but with nougat being on her own we thought we would see. I cleaned an old cage and introduced them in the kichen. They greeted each other and played together, now sleeping on their sides in the same cage in the kitchen. The cage was meant to go under the stairs but it is too big so not sure what to do as nougat is happier indoors but they may have to go out but with company she should be better. Regardless its an amazing first intro but nougat is calm and neutered and the new girl is still seen as a youngster and no threat.

I checked with the vets the other day and nougat is cleared to go with other rabbits again incase anyones worried.

I couldnt keep them in after all so I put them out with a heat pad.

intro in the kitchen went very well
in the cage very well
outside in the hutch, taffie was very nervous and ran so much that she encouraged nougat to chase her but no bites or nastiness from nougat just irritated that this new bun was ruining her new bed.

this morning 2 tiny bits of hair pulled from taffie and nougat a bit irritated but if taffie stopped running nougat was happy to sit with her and eat. Both are comfortable enough to eat hay which wouldnt happen if nougat was being nasty.
They have just been out in the full garden and played with each other, no full grooming yet but plenty nuzling of noses once they sit together. Im keeping my fingers crossed. trying to stimulate them with excercise before I go giving them in hutch toys incase they dont want to share lol.

nougat and jeff get on so if jeff likes taffie to its not to say the 3 wont bond. Just worried because anytime I bond a netherland they become aggressive towards me.... he is so friendly though even if he lives seperate he can still run riot in the garden with the girls. he doesnt fight but theres still a chance.

thanks! After the garden time shes not.....her feet are brown, her nose is wet in dirt and her chest is covered in grit. Mum always said "a dirty bairn is a happy bairn" same goes for rabbits she seems happy with the state of herself

What a wonderful change for her from being in with bullying GPs, to being with other bunnies and getting to run around a lovely garden. Love Love She is beautiful. Hope it continues to go well with Nougat. They make a pretty pair.

Thought there was a wee row tonight when I heard taffie jump in a corner with nougat jumping after her. Appears nougat was insisting she needed to wash taffies eyeballs.....? Nougat has only been spotted washing her old friend once and in secret, she eats in secret, plays in secret, lies down in secret yet the last three days shes playing woth her toys with taffie, washing taffie in full view, eating food hay and vedge infront of me and even making her bed. I hope this one sticks. I will give them 2-3 weeks to bond then taffie will be neutered to prevent anything changing between them. They were in a run in the garden earlier while saphie and zack had the garden, nougat herded taffie away from them to protect her, was cute.

Thanks. I stood there in the pet shop for ages and we were running late already. I was fighting with myself saying what if I couldnt bond her Id have another lone bun but I couldnt leave her there being beaten up by guineas. So glad its working out. the garden is luxury compared to a 30 inch by 18 inch tank with heating Uv light and a guinea group
