RIP McQueen
McQueen has been PTS. He just took a turn for the worse. Stopped eating, was lethargic and just laying in his own muck. Cristobel and myself decided it was kindest to let him go. I have agreed to him having an autopsy as she is very keen to know what was wrong. I posted a thread on here a couple of months ago regaurding the large lump he had in his gut.
I feel a bit bad because I never felt I got over Toby, me and McQueen never had a bond and sometimes we never got on at all. He sure had character Ill give him that.
Rest in peace McQueen - Toby will look after you.
Cristobel did a free post-mortem as she wanted to find out what was wrong with him. That has now been done. She told me that she has never seen anything like it in all her life in rabbits. Poor mcqueens gut was a mess. He had what she described as a sort of diverticulum from the gut, two masses one of which was nearly the size of him which is the one she could feel during his consultation. There where no drainage holes from any of the masses, which she didn’t know where they was coming from. She said both of these masses where filled with strange, smelly fluid that was more like the contents of a horse or a cow then a rabbit with a thick rubber lining. The other mass smelt a bit different. She said it looked like what he was eating passed through these masses rather then his intestines. Its no wonder he was starving and lost weight. I feel awful he had such a dreadful illness.

Oh my darling I am so so sorry. My thoughts are with you. Dear old Toby will take care of him at the Bridge
Re: RIP McQueen
I am so so sorry to hear about McQueen's passing. He was a very fiesty bunny before he got ill and I know you had your work cut out with him. But what a beautiful guy he was.
Please don't feel bad because if you had known had bad things were - and indeed Cristobel who is incredibly experienced didn't realise the extent of his problems. Should you have known, you would have put him out of his misery before as I know you always only wanted the best for him.
Console yourself with the knowledge that you acted in the very best for him and that he is now at peace and free from pain.

Re: RIP McQueen
Thank you guys. Its worse that he died of something that wasn’t diagnosed, as it wasn’t a cancer or a blockage. It was almost like his gut had taken on a different way of functioning. I am glad his at peace because of the extent of his problem. Having said that I would be interested to know what it was he had and what was the course was. I am to call Cristobel next week. I was thinking maybe it was something from the breeder, as in breeders being experimental. I am not sure that is possible but he shouldn’t have had a gut of a horse! Or maybe he was born that way.
