Re: I'm sure she hates me!
I would suggest a rescue nearer you may be a safer bet. It is still a long way to travel a bun who may then not get on with anyone. Buns find travelling so stressful. Plus a home visit would need to be arranged. Does your local branch not have anything? We unfortunately have had an explosion of females and hardly any males !
Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Ah, I didn't know they didn't like traveling! Im not sure about ours. Would two females not be okay?x

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Perhaps she is just nervous around people. Patience and love will sort that out over time.
She will definately be happier with another bunny, but they always get on better when they are neutered. Little girls are also at a really high risk of cancer if they are not neutered too. Sometimes it also helps them be a little more friendly too.
Perhaps its worth contacting your local PDSA and see if they can help out with the cost of a neuter? Its a big op for a bun, but it would mean that she will be a happier bun (no hormones running all over the place) and she will be much happier to bond with another bun.
Worth thinking about I think.

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
I think i will contact Rspca, as we've just had to spent 113 pounds on a guinea pig being pts as he was very unwell. We're broke this month and I want to get her a friend before sept as am going back to college. So ideally, i'd like to have them happy and bonded before I go back.

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
With College looming and money being tight, is this the right time for you to plan a sanctuary? The vets bills will be astronimical, and it takes up a lot of time. Peronally, I would take your current situation on board before moving towards that. It would be a tragedy if you had to re-home the animals you'd given a forever home to, because of finances.

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
I can understand why nuetering doesn't seem like an essential expense, but I think if it were me I'd definitely look into it. When I had Nibbler I just had him castrated and thought Tibbs would manage, but she was so nervous and stressed all the time, and she drove Nibbler crazy, in the end I just went ahead. She's a different bun now, still not a cuddly type, but much calmer and happier all round.
I don't know if its the same everywhere but my local rescue wouldn't let me have a male rabbit to live with a female unless they were both nuetered.

[b] I thought it was part of the agreement when adopting that both rabbits have op if not it should be unless there are exeptional circumstances not that I know of any

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Each branch is different but certainly for our branch it is a preferred requirement and would only be considered if there were medical reasons as to why the bun is not neutered.
Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Also 2 females buns in general, are really hard to bond, but unneutered I can only imagine it would be dangerous to even attempt.

@Jay. The sanctury is a long way off yet when i've fineshed college AND my degree AND got a steady job, however what I am going to do is invest a fair amount of money and a lot of time into converting our garage into a nice safe room for the animals. With heaters and snuggle safes for the cages, the lighting needs to be fixed as does the door, and the electrics needs to be rewired. Then, and only then when i've got my cages ready AND the money to cover everything and i'm talking at least a 3 grand pot, I will open the sanctuary.
I wish you would stalk me, I have no friends *sobs* only animals. x

I am going to look into it, I've been reading about this till one oclock last night and I shall be going ahead with it tight funds or not. She deserves all that I can give her!

Can you not find out if the PDSA can give you a hand in helping towards her neuter?

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Ahh that's a shame:(...Maybe save for a couple of months then get it done? It took me ages to save the money to get Thistle done...and the other thing is with both of mine there have been complications so it's ended up costing more than it was initially supposed too :/...Not that I'm trying to put you off!! Because it's brilliant that you are going to get her done and good luck

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
We're going to get her done next month. What the problem is is this:
My husband and I don't have jobs, we get an allowance from our parents (don't ask)
Once rent, water, tax, bills etc arepaid, we're left with about two hundered pounds for that month. When 135 of that is gone putting a guineapig to sleep everything tightens up as you guys can imagine.
It also doesn't help that we're still recovering from last months splash out as it was our wedding.

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
What a shame you dont qualify.
Congratulations on your wedding. Thats really lovely
Sorry to hear you had to put one of your little ones to sleep.
Perhaps put a little bit away each month like LilyGrace suggested.
In the mean time lots of extra love and time for her and that will really help I recon. x x

Re: I'm sure she hates me!
Oh hon, that sucks - I know that feeling, I had to borrow money last time my cat went to the vet.
Have you shopped around? A lot of places will do it a bit cheaper for cash, or you can ring up and say "oh really, so-and-so said they'd do it for £50" Can you tell I blag freebies a lot?
