Meet Mrs Custard
My newest addition. I bought her last week, I admittedly am warey of hamsters from my first one which would shred you given the chance and lived to 4.5 years. I couldnt help but fall in love with Mrs Custard though and she is helping me out. She is extremely curious and within hours was coming out to see me and will watch your every move if in the room. She isnt biting and I have managed to handle her twice. She is about 12 weeks old. People think male, something to do with the hair but she still appears female to me. Shes still settling so just starting slowly.
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
Shape of the bum - people might be right with male, female's are more pointed. Though, that's all I can add about that!
Good luck with the hamster, she looks sweet

Edited reply because I just double checked and yes we are infact a MR custard. Will the hair get longer then?
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
You can usually tell easily if they are male or female. I have had many many hamsters, i'd like to say i'm hamster expert I've had a hamster that had a heart murmur once one was on regular medication and one lived until 5 years old he died a few months ago.

Re: Meet Mrs Custard
Aww Mr Custard is beautiful I love hamsters!!!! I had a few as a child and my most amazing one was called Smartie, she was curious and wanted to be with me all the time. She would even sleep in the sleeve of my cardigan. We had the usual hamster dramas too, escape missions which involved her ending up up the chimney! Her chewing an expensive school dress! Lol Hamsters rule!
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
Im hoping this one stays handled but its a good start in the 4 or 5 days ive had him. My only other syrian was hell to keep
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
I find with hamsters they are one extreme or the other aren't they. I had 1 that you couldn't get near. It would growl and lunge. Others are just devoted and want to be with you all the time.
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
Oh he is just gorgeous.
My hammys were always just lovely. George was my fave, he used to sit in the pocket of my school shirt with his little hands holding on to the top of the pocket looking out and wanting to be involved in everything........
I love hammys.

Re: Meet Mrs Custard
your hamsters sound cool. I have handled him 3 times now lol without an issue and dead chuffed.
Re: Meet Mrs Custard
She's adorable, I just love hammies. I always have at least 1 at home, I have 2 right now.
As for gender, at that age it's easy to tell. Flip her around, and if you see a pair of big balls, she's a he.
Unless she's late then you'll have to wait a bit longer...
