*fresh* hay
I know buns need TONS AND TONS of hay..but my question is:
If they've got a huge pile, and they don't eat it all, does it need to be topped up or should I leave them to eat the hay already in front of them. Could it be that that hay just isn't as appealing as the hay in the bag? xx

Re: *fresh* hay
Daisy wont eat any thats been out for more than a day! (little beast). So I give him a nice big handful and then when its gone another nice big handful. So he always has it but its always quite fresh from the bag.
He does seem to think he is royalty though!

Re: *fresh* hay
I find my buns prefer fresh but I leave the remaining in the hay container and and they chomp away on the fresh stuff and them finish off the 'old' stuff at the same time. (or they pull it all out into the litter box and poo on it )

Re: *fresh* hay
I was going to say what doesn't get eaten from the box goes into the sleep area, and eventually vanishes....But eevn when they've got piles and piles of it if they catch a sniff of the cattle fodder or silage they go absolutely ape and act like they've never been fed. They are fussy little monsters aren't they?!
By the way, I'm sure no-one on here would, but NEVER feed silage to buns.

Re: *fresh* hay
I quite like the smell actually. It's basically undried hay, will make buns VERY poorly but I have had morons trying to buy it from us for buns and piggies

[b]Ruffin wont eat hay unless its been nicked from the guinea pigs hay rack he is called daisy as well. Jazz and fizz eat masses of it but again its better if its nicked from the guinea pig you have to feel sorry for poor Daisy bless him.

Re: *fresh* hay
My two won't eat it unless i give them no other food - so honestly, it never gets eaten and I regularly dump basket-fuls of unsatisfactory hay into the paddock down the road
