Gus gus...almost a year ago :'( Empty Gus gus...almost a year ago :'(

Post by Yodaphine Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:46 pm

The 8th of this month is gonna be a really sad day for me, because a year ago on that day I had to have my baby boy Gus gus pts, and truthfully there has not been a day gone by when I havent thought about him. I have had rats for years, and every one of them has been very special to me, but none were ever so special as my little Gus, he really was a mummys boy, to the point where he would snub my OH! Gus was the first rat we ever Kept as a solo rat, we wanted to spend time with him, nurture him, during the time we had Gus, we never had any other animals, so he got our undivided attention, he was like a surrogate child...and boy did it show! He was freindly, and more affectionate than any we had ever had before, he was amazing! I remember the day I got him like it was yesterday, I remember walkin in and seein him sat in a cage full of top eared rats...all the fancy top eared rats were all huddled up together, all warm and cosy...but then there was Gus, a full coloured dumbo rat, sat in the corner, huddled up all cold by himself Sad It almost looked as if the other rats didnt wanna sit with him cos he had big ears Sad I couldnt leave him there, I had to take him home, so I did! And he fast became the most spoilt little ratty I had ever had!

He was handsome, and loyal, and extremely intelligent! By 6mths old he could jump nearly 3 feet! I discovered this when he wanted to get from the cube (the one roo likes) to my lap! He just leapt right into my lap, I was stunned! He would follow me everywhere, and was pretty much free range...He never chewed wires or messed outside his cage, even goin so far as to take himself home for a wee, something I never trained him to do! So obviously I had no reason to cage him except when we were out or in bed!Gus gus...almost a year ago :'( 100_0410
He literally was like my little shadow, whatever I did he did, my OH would call him mummys little lap-rat! And even in his old age he was a real little trooper, never did he let anything get him down! When He got to about 3, he wasnt able to move, and clean himself quite as easily as when he was a youth so I would sit him on my lap and be his support bar almost so he could have a good clean, and he seemed to really appreciate it...

We coped liked this for quite sometime, and Gus would regularly sit on my lap of an evening having a good old wash! But he was getting old, he was nearly four, and his legs were getting worse! Then the morning came...I picked him up and he had developed a sore on his tummy, where he had gotten frustrated in the night and barbered himself, I knew the time was coming and I really didnt wanna accept it but I had to for his sake...I had given this little man everything, and the last gift I could give him was to let him die with dignity...Ryan took him to the vets, I couldnt, I really couldnt face it, I had the faint hope that they may be able to make him better, but I knew in my heart it wasnt gonna happen...I told him if there was anything, no matter how much it costs I will do it. But there wasnt, he was older than the average, most rats dont even make it to 3, Gus was nearly 4! I hated having to make that decision, I prayed that Gus would make it for me and just let go but he didnt Crying or Very sad Everytime I think of Gus, it has me in pieces and I really cant believe it been nearly a year. The ache in my heart makes it feel like yesterday. Crying or Very sad

R.I.P Little man <3 I will never ever stop loving you <3
