Hedgehog in Shed
Last night when I went out to shut the bunnies in their shed, I found a hedgehog in there. It hid in the hay box, so we carried that out to the front garden and tipped the hedgehog out. I felt really mean about doing that, but was worried that he could injure the bunnies or that they might get flees from him. I would'nt mind him being around really, as he would probably keep the slug and snail population in check, but does anyone know if they are a danger to the bunnies.

Re: Hedgehog in Shed
Don't know of them causing buns any problems. They can often be covered in fly eggs or maggots though which obviously isn't what you want. x
Re: Hedgehog in Shed
Hedgehog fleas aren't like bunny/cat/dog fleas and also for the past few years our local hedgehog rescue hasn't seen a single hedgehog with fleas - she thinks that due to the drop in hedgehog numbers it has had a knock on effect on the fleas too. i don't think they would hurt the bunnies - more the other way round if they got past the prickles!

Re: Hedgehog in Shed
ps perhaps you could put a wooden box or something with a hole somewhere safe in the garden with hay in for the hedgehog to nest in.

Oh no, I don't know where the poor thing is now. I hope it is ok. I'll leave a box of hay out for it, though, just in case it is still in my front garden.racheld69 wrote:ps perhaps you could put a wooden box or something with a hole somewhere safe in the garden with hay in for the hedgehog to nest in.

Re: Hedgehog in Shed
aaaw that's a nice idea - leaving it a home!
I'm sure it's not annoyed with you for kicking it out
I love hedgehogs they're so cute and snuffly :luv:

Aww i love baby hedgehogs!!
My nan had one living in her garden for a while, she would always leave it out food and water.
Dont give it milk though, though they like it, its the worst thing you can give them.

I love hedgehogs! If you find him again you should take a picture! I'm sure he's ok though especially with the hay you left for him!
