Insurance - PAH Empty Insurance - PAH

Post by SarahJane Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:13 pm

Did anyone know they did this? My buns havent been insured for about 18 months because its just too expensive with three and it isnt cost effective, but i do worry sometimes.

I have just insured the buns for £5.44 each a month! They do cover dentals unlike PetPlan so it seems although I havent read it completely yet - if they dont i dont mind because no others do but it seems they will up to £150. Jelly wont be covered as she had one 14 months ago but the other two would I think.

Just seems good value. Its not covered for life I chose the cheaper policy as my experience is most conditions either clear up within a year, or they dont but whats expensive is the finding out a condition not treating it so its unlikely to take two policy years. I could be wrong but i would pay the extra in thoses cases obviously.

And you get a £10 voucher per bun!

I dont use their vets, its companion care and its not local. All it does is if you have the lifetime policiy the excess is £10 cheaper.

That seems quite good, Theres conflicting info on Petplans dental policy - I got told as long as they have yearly dental checks they are covered but who knows. I pay £70 a month for insurance for my girls and the cats but for the peace of mind its invaluable x

I use PAH vets and have found them very good. They were happy to take Hutch with Rosie when I got her spayed, they understood about the bond Insurance - PAH 497709

They also fitted in Hutch for an appt within a couple of hours when Vince attacked him.

I use them, they do my bun's vacs too.

I don't think they do include dental treatment. I have just read the PAH policy and this is in the 'What we don't cover' column. They only cover dentals if they are the result of an accident or illness. If it is straight overgrowth, that isn't included.

11. The cost of dental treatment unless the treatment relates to an injury or illness and your rabbit has had an annual dental examination by a vet and all treatment recommended at the time of examination has been carried out and at your expense.

Where there is no history of regular minimum annual routine checkups: All routine dental maintenance or
preventative care including (but not limited to) teeth trimming, de burring and rasping or any resulting treatment from the malocclusion and or overgrowth of your rabbit’s teeth.
Also the cover is only for £1,500 in the life range, while Pet's Plan's limit is £2,000.

Not saying it's a bad policy or anything but you need to very carefully read the policy details to find these little gems hidden away that make a massive difference.

All of mine have either had a dental or have notes on their files saying they have overgrown teeth so they wouldnt be covered anyway.

for me, I would rather pay £16 a month for three and have £1000 worth of cover than pay £36 a month and have £2000. I cant afford £36 a month so its like a nice "middle ground" insurance. It doesnt offer everything Petplan does, but thats okay with me Smile

I'm in agreement with this. I wish I'd seen this insurance before I took out insurance for the most recent 3 bunnies I seem to have accrued since December. Erin has had a stasis episode I've claimed for now so no changing policies there but I'm seriously considering changing Binky Shadow, maybe even Tink and Rudy as I've not claimed for any conditions for any of them (Rudy has a long list of exceptions on his policy anyway so I get very little value from the premiums). £1,500 seems like a lot of cover. I could afford to pay the extra if treatment went over that, it's just the gamble of whether best to insure or not. I'm pretty sure I'd go for the Lifetime though, but do agree the Annual is a good middle ground.

Thanks for highlighting this insurance Sarah Jane, I'm so happy to have Artie insured now. Very Happy Very Happy

I think If I was earning I would go for lifetime but for the next few months while I finish Uni I just have to be very careful - if they end up needing something long term and I havent got it covered, then its something i will have to pay extra for when im earning. but its nice to know if something happens, they break their leg doing a massive binky or something stupid like I dont have to panic. If they ended up needing lifetime care then I would have a year of the policy (up to) , to save up the extra, its more suprise vet bills i want to protect myself against if thats making any sense?

Accidently insured Jelly for life and the other two for the year, shes going to think I love her more ROFL better get on the phone to PAH on monday! x

I wasn't having a go SJ, I think it is an excellent compromise. Better some insurance than none. It certainly sets your mind at ease when they are ill.

It's funny because when I'm working out which insurance to get, top of range, middle ground or to save instead, now I have all 8 insured I'd probably be better saving the £70 a month but it gave me incredible peace of mind when I had to rush Esme to the vets at midnight that it was already all paid for. I'm such a stresser that perhaps even though economically it may not be the best thing to do, stress-wise it possibly is. Each person's circumstances being different and all that.

It's weird having Artie insured, I'm just so used to the idea the he isn't insurable at 6+ years old that I can't adjust to his new status Laughing Laughing

Oh me and my big mouth Rolling Eyes I had to rush Binky to the vets in the early hours of Monday morning (£117 for the consultation alone). He's been there four days and had x-rays etc - total cost being £254. I have to pay excess of £55 plus a paperwork fee to vets of £6. I should, in theory, be getting £193 back from Pet Plan. It cost £208 to insure the 2 bunnies for a year so I'm really pleased I have insurance - whoever it's with.

Your vet charge you for the paperwork! That is really mean.

Hope Binky is well. Insurance does take the sting out of vet fees.

My vet has only just started charging for the paperwork. I've got to say, having worked at a GP medical centre for 18 months and seeing what the GPs charge for reports and letters etc I have been surprised that vets don't charge for their insurance related paperwork - afterall it's nothing to do with treating the animal it's a private arrangement between me and an insurance company, if it's covered in their fees then uninsured people are being charged for them doing the insurance paperwork, in a roundabout way. GPs charge £40 for completing a form for reclaiming holiday costs for cancellations on medical grounds, sometimes it's a very simple job. The £6 to the vets seems a bargain in comparision Laughing Laughing

True enough, but vets make so much money already, that it does seem a little mean of them to do this. I suppose I'm lucky with my vet and will certainly NOT be telling them about this. Laughing
