Spayed bunny not eating
I was in two minds about posting this here, but I feel that for my bunnies benefit it's best to have as many opinions as possible.
I've started syringe feeding her, she's taken two syringes at 2ml each but she's not eating independently. I'm getting worried, I need to know before the shops close what I should do, if I need to stay up all night - whch I honestly don't mind doing - I'm gonna need a lotta coffe and we're out of sugar LOL. anyone else got any ideas? I can ring the vet if she doesn't eat herself by....a certain time but I don't know how long I should give it.
The vet has given her two doses of sitmulant but she's not a happy girl. In herself she seems bright...

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
How long is it since she ate?
What are you syringe feeding her hun, and how often?
Could she be in pain? Has the vet given her any pain relief?

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
It was yesterday before the operation that she last ate herself.
she was given two types of pain releif, a 24 hour and another one.
I'm syringe feeding her Pellet mush (2 parts water to 1 part pellet, nice and sloppy) She's had 2X 2ml syringes worth and she seemed to like them but she's just not interested herself.
I'm not sure that she's in pain, she isn't sitting hunched ands he's washing herself... I'm wondering ... how do they administer the GA? Is it gas - a tube down her throat might have scratched or hurt her making her not want to eat/swallow. Or a syringe...

I dont know hun about the GA's.
I know that daisy's eating slows after one but he does eat a bit.
Have there been any poo's at all?

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
Okay, I would give her a little more syringe food, but not too much as you dont want her tummy to compact up.
Also when you do syringe her a few of slightly warm water, Its important that she doesnt dehydrate. Pop her were she will feel safe and familiar with some of her fave tit bits and plenty of water. Some of this may be stress so keeping normality as far as you can will help her too.
I would then call the vets first thing in the morning hun. See if they can give you some more pain killer for the next couple of days too. Also - In the morning see if you can get some Critical Care Mix - it has lots of vitamins in it for when you are syringing her.
Im sending lots and lots of vibes for your little girl hun.
Please post any questions and keep us updated.

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
Hiya
Sorry to hear your little bun is poorly and not eating. I've had 3 girls spayed, they were all fine but Hazel I had to take back as she was hunched up and sucking her sides in. She was given pain relief which did the trick.
To get them eating, it might be worth trying some herbs, my lot love parsley, bazil, chives, rosemary and lavender. If there is a large supermarket near you you can buy potted herb plants from very cheaply.
I probably shouldn't admit this, but I gave Hazel a couple of nibbles of cereal to stimulate her appetite, only 2 or 3 cherios but it seemed to work for her, but try the herbs first.
Keep us posted om how it goes and good luck, sending healing vibes your way x

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
Jelly only eats grass after being under GA, i dont know why, and Domino would only eat grass and herbs etc. Both of them ate very little. Has she pooed?

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
When you have a female rabbit speyed it usually takes them 24 hours before they start to eat again so don't panic, you can syringe her or, as the others have said, give her something tempting, give her hay, fresh grass and fresh dandelions, syringe her some water as well, keep an eye on her and make sure she is pooing, I take it that you have her indoors in a confined space?

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
Glad that she is recovering. The GA knocks them sideways for a day or so - bit like us when we have an op - and often they just sit for 24 hours before they get back to normal. If they don't eat then, it really is cause to be concerned. You are doing just fine Lexy.

Re: Spayed bunny not eating
Glad to hear your bunny is feeling better. Harley has had three rounds under GA and he bounces out of them like he just had a nap! I've been extremely lucky so I can only imagine how scary it must have been.
I hope she's continued to improve and is back to her normal self.
