It's all my fault :( Empty It's all my fault :(

Post by SarahJane Sat May 07, 2011 5:55 pm

Every week I check Dominos feet when I am at home, i checked them last week and they were fine, a bit red but not too bad, sudocremed them and left it at that.

Checked them today and the hock is very red and there is a little dent in the middle, which looks very familiar. Its hot and soft to touch, squidgy. I am sure I can see white under the skin but Mum cant see it, maybe its there maybe its not. However when you part his part his fur up the foot thats all red too and all bumpy and hot Sad

He will see the vet next week, he isnt acting like it bothers him thank god. I want to see the vet we saw with Peanut, i wont settle for anything less because I believe that the "routine" treatment of Peanut is what hindered his progress in the beginning. I would rather wait an extra couple of days and see someone who knows what they are doing.

Im completely heartbroken. its all my fault. I love my boy so much, maybe its karma Sad

I don't know what the 'eck you think the karma is for No It's not your fault Domino has got poorly feet. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If you are blaming yourself for his genes then don't. What you do now is all that's important. Just because Peanut had his problems doesn't mean that Domino will have too. I hope he goes on at the vets and it's not as bad as you fear.

I just feel so gutted, I'm the kind of person people would talk about, in saying why "just having one litter" is so awful. And that would be right because its true, but i just feel so upset he is suffering and i have put that on him.

Yeh i have some from PB, unfortunately Domino is less tolerate and ATE them when we moved him in after Pb left us. If he had that flooring he would need like a whole roll without any seams! like a gym mat! x

You cant help it though, you sit there and you watch them and wish to do the absolute best for them and yet in the back of my mind theres this little voice thats telling me it is my fault.

Maybe we will be lucky and theres no infection. but when you look at the photo .... it doesnt seem likely. thanks everyone.

SJ think of it this way, you have got the experience and the knowledge to nip this in the bud this time round. What you learnt from your experience with Peanut will go a long way towards getting Domino back in tip top condition without all the hit & miss, trial & error that we often experience during our first brush with a condition.

I think I just felt in so much shock yesterday. I am looking at it from that perspective now, because any other isnt going to help Domino.

If they perscribe baytril I am going to ask for Septrin, do you think this is the best plan?

I always wondered if he had had more suitable meds first time round it might not have got as bad as it did, so i will not be happy taking home baytril.

He seems very happy today he isnt bothered by it, which is a good sign.

I would agree, Baytril isn't going to cut it, it's just the default 'safe' option for vets. If they are reluctant offer to sign a waiver for the Septrin, this is what I used to do for 'off-licence' antibiotics for Lexie & Mack.
