Re: Your buns story
@ jay, only just seen ur post above, i think its lovely u still talk to bertie, we all have those few extra special relationships in life whether its human or animal companion. No wonder it was such a blow, after working so hard to gain his trust. The only situation i can relate it to was a 2 year old child we had in the refuge along with her mum and baby brother. I though she was autistic, she didnt communicate at all, her body language and reactions to different stimuli were all inappropriate, and she was so violent and volatile it was ureal. I have a teetg mark scar on the inside of my leg where she bit into me, through my jeans, and held on like a jack russell. After 8 mnths of her being safe, working with her and her mum, she was a different child. She would sit on the stairs waiting for me to get to work, and lay on my shoulder while i wrote my notes up at the end of the day. She was in preschool and i took her there one day and saw that the other kids were happy to see her and wanted to play with her, where as before, everyone was scared of her, including me! She once twisted my colleagues hair in her little hands and pulled so hard i could see her scalp rising, and the child laughed liked a mad man whilst she did it, it took 3 of us about ten minutes to prise her little fingers off. Well, a bad social worker, a mum without leave to remain in the country, meant that mum returned to live with abusive dad. I was heart broken. I still think about her, she must be about 5 now. Different circumstances/species, but still that huge task of winning the trust of someone who expects u to hurt them at any moment x
@Yodaphone, what a great story, it was meant to be! She is beautifull too

Re: Your buns story
Archie and Molly were abandoned in the woods in November last year with their 3 brothers and sisters when they were 6 weeks old. They were taken to Chichester Cat and Rabbit Rescue and in March I went to the rescue looking for a pair of rabbits, and Archie and Molly were the only rabbits that ran to the side of the pen to say hello, so I chose them
Re: Your buns story
6 out of 7 of mines came as babies straight from the breeder but.
I went round to collect a bun I had reserved and the breeder asked if we could maybe take a look at one of her babies, it wasnt well. My mum was with me and vet nursed a long time. We looked in the hutch and could see 3 or 4 white lops about 4 weeks old bouncing about next to mum. They were shifted out the way to show a really tiny white bundle, skin and bone with its legs stuck out front ways and either side. My mum confirmed it had hip displasia and wasnt being fed by mum at all and the competition from the siblings left it hungry. The breeder explained if it stayed with mum it was going to get crushed or die of starvation but a one to one and plenty care might give it a chance. We took baby 'boy' zack home not gettong attached as we thought it wouldnt make it past a week. 'He' was housed with saphie the other baby for a friend and warmth. Took about 3 weeks to get to a reasonable weight but 'he' was doing fine apart from the "omg I am ice skating" legs. We practiced running up and down the 20ft ish garden and jumping log and now at a year old HER legs are completely normal to walk on. She has hip displacia, I have it to and she will get stiff sometimes and will hve early artheritis but otherwise leads a healthy life though. If she were a child though I would use the term global delay as she takes a long time to wrk things out. Took ages to get balance as a baby and isnt great at judging distances or talking bunny! Even the vets had to get a few opinions on sex before they new what they were neutering as she never matured sexually. She is also not much larger than a netherland
Taffie who was a shop bunny was housed in a 30inch glass doored enclosure is a boiling shop with UV lights adding heat and 5 male guinea pigs biting her face and ears and pulling her hair out. I bought her straight away after her being picked up by the ears to show me. The women was like "hold her this way" because she was kicking and scared. I just hugged her close and she calmed right down.
