frozen fruit... Empty frozen fruit...

Post by LilyGrace Tue Jun 28, 2011 10:44 am

I was drinking a smoothie last night and was wondering...would it be okay to blend up some banana or spinach, or any spring greens, put them the mixture in an ice cube tray and freeze it then give it to the buns on hot days?? I can't think of any reasons why this wouldn't be okay, but someone might know something I don't! If everyone thinks it would be okay, I shall give it a go Smile.

I do it for my bunnies, I dont know if its right or not but mine love it.

Yesterday I blended up banana, spinach, carrot with ice so it was a bit slushy and they went mad for it. Pebbles was getting way too hot again, and this cooled her down.

I have now frozen some in little cubes to give to them when its really hot. I would expect for rabbits with sensitive tummies its not a good idea, but mine are okay.

And yes when you think about it, they dont need it because they dont have it in the wild, however wild rabbits can go underground, mine can't, so if i can make the heat more bearable for them, i will Smile

I believe it could be an issue with vegetables that wilt when defrosted after freezing, which is most leafy types & herbs. Root vegetables and fruit should be OK though.

Grapes are a winner for me as a human! Thumbs Up

yeh very true, i blended bits of veg with some fruit and then its like a smootie cube which i would assume would be better than say freezing say a spring green leaf.

especially as mine dont eat it when its frozen - too crunchy! They just wait until its melting and eat the "mush"!

The only think that springs to mind is as part of the Article written by Mr Chitty for HM this time he mentioned some buns going into stasis after eating frozen grass. I wonder though if this is the because it is "greens" like sooz said.

i think if something was completely frozen it could do that, because it is SO cold.

What i do for mine is I take the frozen "Mush" out of the freezer, put it in a bowl and wait for it to look like what I can only describe as a slush puppy, and THEN let them have it. x

Yeah I was thinking it wouldn't be good to give it to them when it's rock solid, it's not exactly pleasant for us to chomp on an ice cube so with their little sensitive selves I can imagine it would be worse. Frozen grass? Strange, was it frozen from like frost/cold outside? Will steer clear of freezing any greens then and maybe just banana and grapes or strawberries (with the outsides cut off cus of the seeds ofcourse Smile )!

I hope you will be peeling the grapes. Laughing Laughing Rabbits INSIST on them being peeled by a human slave. Makes them taste better.

I was just joking about peeling grapes. Laughing Though I think you have to be careful with strawberries because of the seeds on the outside.

Well today they had their frozen cube! Normally I let it melt a little bit and i think I will stick to doing that as poor Jelly kept shaking her head, I think she got a brain freeze! Embarassed dont judge me!

Anyway, I managed to video it, its quite amusing, Jelly grabs the entire thing and runs off with it and gets told off by me! haha
