You're so right - as if he didn't have enough to cope with with his sludgy bladder ... to have this as well ... and he's such a very sweet little soul
Thank you so much for all the vibes and good wishes.
Artie has eaten a little for himself over night as well as being syringe fed.
The verdict is still the same that the affected kidney is doing no good but causing pain so he will be having the operation some time today (possibly even now). I'll update when I know anything.
Artie also has a very high titre for EC. I'm part way to understanding that but not sure if that means he has an active infection or has had very recently. I do know however that it could flare up badly from stress. It's just over 3 weeks since his last surgery and he's there again so I guess that's hugely stressful It's most probably EC that has damaged his kidney in the first instance.
Thanks again for the support.

It sounds as if he has been through a lot of very stressful situations recently. Everything is crossed here for a good outcome for him. Lots of vibes coming his way.

Re: Artie - kidney stones - kidney removal - Home!!
Thanks so, so much, everybody.
He's come through it okay
(I've just got off the phone now from receiving the good news)
He's come round and had a drink, bit grotty but doing well.
The kidney looked horrible so good that it's out. His bladder looks really good which is good to know at this stage.

Re: Artie - kidney stones - kidney removal - Home!!
Thanks for all the messages, I really appreciate them, especially Dawnbunny being able to share your experience with him.
He's still at the vets and I don't get a message until about 11.00 am. They would have let me know if he'd taken a turn for the worse, so at the moment he's just being kept hydrated, fed, calm etc to make a good recovery. I'm not expecting him home today. Depending on how well he does they might let him home tomorrow (going by his last operation this was the timescale). I think they will be very wary of stressing him by sending him home before he's fully ready because he has EC lurking in the background
Edit to add: I've now got my message. He's okay, urinated over night.. he won't be coming home for a few days though ... I'll just have to console myself with the idea that he's on the mend, even if he's not actually here with me.

Re: Artie - kidney stones - kidney removal - Home!!
Thanks again for all your kind messages.
Today's message from the vets is that he is bright and eating well. I've been worried sick about the EC affecting his recovery and I had a really bad night worrying about him (he's worth all the stress).
It's his birthday on Thursday (7 years old), I've not dared to start thinking about it until now.

My little Artie is home!
He's not as full on cuddly as he was last time but is very lively, eaten hay, scattered his litter tray contents over the floor
Thank you for all your good wishes everybody, we (me and Artie) are most grateful
