cats and rabbits
Anyone know what cats are usualy like with rabbits? I found a black one on my patio earlier there is no one in our street with one and im just wondering if rabbits attract cats and if cats hunt them etc?? It was just sitting looking at the babys about 5 foot away and ran off when I opened the door. Roman wasnt to far like so I was just a bit
Re: cats and rabbits
I live in a very catty neighbourhood and I have seen 1 cat in the garden in 18 months, however when flo escaped the other day I found her with one of the local persians but no drama between them. I think it just depends on the cat. You certainly can't trust the cat. As a child we had a cat that was forever hiding live baby bunnies around the house so you were constantly being surprised when moving things. And the stable cats where I ride catch a lot of young rabbits.

Mine are all indoor buns and all my cats are indoor cats so mine are all trained (not that I did anything) to get along with mine. Only 1 of my cats has been an outdoor cat previously

A cat took my Husbands Father's rabbit once and ran off with it, it was only a youngster and he never found it again

Re: cats and rabbits
I would be very wary.
I would not let a cat anywhere near thumper. My old neighbours had cats and they used to watch her in her run with a look in their eyes I did not like one little bit.
One day I looked out and one of them was standing on the roof of her run, looking down on her So it was promptly chased away.
It is for this reason that thumper has never been allowed to free range the garden without me there. Other animals and birds of prey.
You need to be very careful!

Re: cats and rabbits
[b]We have had 2 house bunns and have allways had cats Jake lived with two cats Minto and Kermit with no problems at all both cats come and go in and out of the house. Jake passed away the same day as Kermit Ruffin lives fine with Minto in fact Minto keeps giving Ruffs a wash. My daughter has a cat that brought in a baby bunn which she kept she has two adult bunns now and the cat just acepts them. Also we kept my daughters 2 other cats here for a couple of months names were Tess and Tickles (blame me named one of her dolls wen she was 3 and the name stuck) they just wanted to play with bunns just have to watch if there claws are out when playing otherwise the bunns seemed to love running about with them hope this helps

Re: cats and rabbits
It's a case of BEWARE! Rabbits are prey animals, cats are predators.
An average size domestic cat could easily carry off/kill a three quarter grown rabbit and could certainly do a lot of damage to an adult. Treat cats near your buns as you would a dog.... shoo them off or get a water pistol. A hose might be over doing it and you might end up with a very irate cat owner to deal with.

Re: cats and rabbits
I dunno who it belongs to (the cat). I was just asking because where I live there is LOADS of wild bunnys, not so much on my side because of the road, but on the other side it stretched out to miles and miles of feilds forrests etc so they are not a rare sight. Think he may have been shocked by the variety of colours as all the wild ones round here are brown. he aint been back since like! x
Re: cats and rabbits
I think it depends on the animal...my cats really old and just ignores the buns..I think she's unsure of what they are. Luna used to follow her around and the cat would bat her back..(without claws out so not in an attacking way, just a get out of my face kinda thing). However, if you don't know the cat or anything I'd be wary. Thistle is extremely scared of our cat and his heart rate goes through the roof if he sees her or the dogs.

Re: cats and rabbits
Neighbours once told me a cat ventured across our back fence, looked down over the hutch and in his words "ive never seen a cat move so quick or look so scared"
Needless to say ive never seen the said cat again
