What ? Has no one told them rabbits are vegan? What on earth makes a manufacturer think that's ok!

Nothing suprises me - I think we'll cover this in HM, cos it's nonsense. There's a lot of 'treats' that are bound with egg white too

Re: Meat in pets@home products
My Humum is really careful about what we get as 'treats' - she doesn't understand why so many of them have really bright colouring. Us rabbits don't care what they look like
Plus one of our favouritest things we go silly for is curly parsley, although she has sworn me to secrecy about it being good for us.
The grown-ups get little bits of banana chip when they are tucked in at night if they have been good. So not very often

Re: Meat in pets@home products
Ive known this for a while, aparently the Burgess excel pellets also contain animal and meat derivitives. I dont tend to feed my bunch those kinds of treats now, anyway.
BSE?
Oh and SJ and Jay, good idea. How about adding brands of treats that are safe, and possibly some tried and tested home made treat recipies?

I can't see anything in the Burgess excel ingredients that indicates animal derivatives.

No, i dont think it says on the bags, but there was a report published which showed different levels of chemicals and undesired additives in various different foods. I cant remember where i read it!

We need to be very careful about stating things about companies without having full knowledge of the facts, as this leaves us, and you open to prosecution for libel.marleyNfriends wrote:Ive known this for a while, aparently the Burgess excel pellets also contain animal and meat derivitives. AFAIK there was a report produced about Burgess and meat derivatives, but it was produced by a rival pet food company, and has been refuted, completely. I am personally in contact with rabbit food producers, because of HM, including Burgess, and TBH their ethics and ethos re:rabbit food and welfare far surpass their main rival, who produced that report.
If it weren't for funds from Burgess, there would be no Rabbit AwarenessWeek, for example.

Sorry, but i dont think my post was in any way slanderous. I said said aparently, i didnt say it was 100% fact.
I completely agree with this statement however, and i do think theyre one of the best food companies out there and I buy many of their products, but personally prefer a different food, for various reasons.

Re: Meat in pets@home products
Even by saying 'apparently' or 'allegedly', it can be regarded as slanderous if a statement made on an open public forum can have a commercial affect on their business. I do think that as with all best investigative journalism, you need to ask the company to publicly refute the allegation. Otherwise it is all a bit too dodgy.

Re: Meat in pets@home products
BTW someone posted to the rwaf facebook page saying they had asked PAH about the meat derivative issue and they told her it was a labelling mistake.

Ta for that, but I've still not had a reply from them as yet which isn't very good.
Glad I don't feed them treats.
