More destructive behaviour after neutering Empty More destructive behaviour after neutering

Kobi had his neuter on Tuesday and he seems to be recovering quite quickly and the vets said he came around really quick after his anesethic too.

Before the op, he was quite destructive anyway, but now it seems he is much worse, and was just wondering if this was normal until his hormones settle down?

It will take a couple of months for the hormone levels to drop so you have to be patient. Neutering does affect them, but some buns might just always be destructive.

It also depends where he is just now. If he is confined a bit until he heals, he is maybe just getting bored and is ready to go back to his normal living environment.

Thanks Smile We have been keeping him in longer than usual, but still let him out for a run around to stretch his legs for a few hours and he is only destructive when he comes out of his cage! We try and tempt him with a towel to dig and chew at but he much prefers carpet!

hi,

Daisy was destructive after he had been taken away from his environment and then put back again - for example after a stay at the vets or when we took him to my nans for a week.

He did settle eventually but we had to work very hard.

It might be an idea to get a water spray bottle and give him a gentle squirt (away from his eyes) accompanied by an stern - no. I know that this has worked.

Also try and find him some pear or apple tree branches to chew....these are tasty and so might distract him.

Ahh thanks, yes i never thought about him being taken away from his environment, and taking that and the fact he had a major op into account, then I don't blame him!

He used to just dig corners, but now its in the middle of a room and its not as easy to stick a plant pot to cover the holes!!

We'll have to work hard with him as of course we want him to be happy but in a less 'tear up your house' kinda way!
