Mouse rescue - help needed Empty Mouse rescue - help needed

Post by FarplaceRescue Mon Sep 05, 2011 8:18 pm

I have been approached by a lady in Darlington, Co Durham . She rescued some mice who were to be snake food. She didnt separate the sexes soon enough (?) and things have got out of hand. She is keeping the "oldies", and has rehomed quite a lot to private homes, but still has 200+ needing help. I am taking the first 50 on Sunday, but more help is needed. Is there anyone who can offer a sanctuary / rescue space for any of these mice - or a forever home? Preferably in the North East or North West, but anywhere considered if transport can be sorted.

Don't send them anywhere near me please. I have my own mouse! Laughing

I have the humane mousetrap out baited with an enticing bit of jaffa cake, but no show yet!

I took the first few today. Was supposed to be 50. Sexes supposed to be seperated. It wasn't.
Tonight I have a total of 87. Tomorrow there may well be more. One little girl was in labour as she arrived here. In her cage were 2 more females with litters, and a male.
There were 3 other litters with babies under 3 days old.
There were a further 50-odd babies under 4 weeks of age.
8-12 pregnant females. Some due any moment.
And 14 males, mostly living with females on arrival. They are not now!
There are lots still at the "owners" house, and if they are kept like these ones are, they will still be breeding like... well... mice.
I cant take the rest until I have more room - especially with the pregnant ones due any day.
This litter was here when she brought them, but can only be a couple of days old max. I was told nothing about this litter (or the others) and was only told that there were "some" babies - all weaned. Like Yes.....

oh goodness me - 200! I have a ZooZone 1 cage spare if it's any help to you - I cut a hole in it to join it to a box but you can have the box too and make a giant cage! Not really in a position to foster but I'm happy to donate them if anyone can pick them up.
