More Myxi outbreaks
The Earls Hall Veterinary Practice in Shoeburyness and Eastwood have just advised that in the last few days they have had to put to sleep 5 domestic rabbits suffering from Myxomatosis –all separate owners.
Two members of the public have rung the helpline for advice this morning. One rabbit owner from Stockton, Warwickshire lost her bunny yesterday. The other owner from Blundell in Liverpool lost two sisters to the virus last week . None of the rabbits was vaccinated.
Members from Cardiff and Hepstonstall West Yorks have reported seeing several cases in the wild population with myxi in the last few days.
Please ensure your rabbits are vaccinated. Myxi vaccination should be every 6 months and 10% of the vaccine should be given intradermally to ensure maximum coverage. There are 3 different VHD vaccines available and vaccination for VHD is annual.

Re: More Myxi outbreaks
I can't vaccinate Baby Saint with her being disabled and damaged, the vet said due to her very low immune system the vaccines could make her very ill.

Similarly for Rhia, she has an ongoing condition which whilst she is on medication, she can't be vaccinated.

Re: More Myxi outbreaks
It is worrying but she doesn't go out very often outside as she can't cope with the noise and being taken from the security of her indoor pen as she is also blind as well as being disabled but if we do take her outside we put a tiny bit of fly repellent on her and sit and watch her and then check her after when she goes in.
Inside where she is we have electric fly killers and we have Konk sprays throughout the house and they are brilliant.
Plus loads of fly swatters hung everywhere

I hadn't heard of Konk but have looked it up and it looks great.
Is there a UK supplier or do you have to import it?

Re: More Myxi outbreaks
Funnily enough, a reminder came from the vet today for Snuffie's injection.

It's not cheap but worth every penny. We get our's from a company called Cox Agri who are agricultural suppliers and they are all round the country and are Durham based. If you click on 'Supplier Locator' on the website below you should be able to see the nearest stockist to you

Re: More Myxi outbreaks
Great! Thanks. I live between Sunderland and Durham so it would be easy enough for me to go and get it from them personally
Re: More Myxi outbreaks
Aha! They're in Stanley. I can practically see that from here, straight across to the West...rather a few miles away, though.
