Brother & Sister buns Empty Brother & Sister buns

Post by 4390evans Sun Sep 25, 2011 10:38 am

Hey there
So, yesterday I had a man knock on about getting rid of his rabbits as his daughter has lost interest and they are just sitting in the hutch day and night for the past year.

I asked if any were neutered, he said they have had babies, Oh I said are they a mating pair? he said they are brother and sister Shocked i didnt ask anything more I just told him to bring them over and Ill take them in for the time being.

They are a good looking pair and he has groomed her so much her ear hair is all funny I seperated them last night and put them in seperate hutches. They are quite fat buns in comparison to my lot and they are so lovley but they do shake uncontrolably when I pick them up, their nails are super long and ill snip them today, they are both clean on the outside, im still to check their teeth to make sure they are ok.

What im wondering is shall I keep them apart as they seem so lost without each other. I have a new run comming tomorrow so ill put one of them in that if all goes well.

Please seperate them now & get her to the vets tomorrow, to book in for speying at the very least. They are a male & a female rabbit - Of course they will breed. She is more than likely pregnant. How old are her babies? Where are they?

Get the female in for an emergency spay if you can hun if she is pregnant those babies could be born with all sorts of problems. So good of you to take them both in.

Ill be calling the vets on monday, was ment to be having 2 boys in to be done next month but she is my priority atm, ive felt round and she dont feel pregnant but she may have just been caught, They are in seperate hutches till I can make sure they are both fine.

I dont know where her babies are, the way the little girl spoke it seems she has been pregnant a few times and they have been sold on No god only knows what they are gonna go through with vets etc.

Im gonna contact the mother tonight and get more info, the dad had said they girl had bought them of the internet without them knowing and has had them for a year so they are still babies them selves!

Yes I agree with Becki's post, keep them seperated and get them to the vet's asp . The guy has obviously used them from the sound of it for breeding... No

Oh goodness me.

Well done for taking them in - at least now they are safe and will have a better life.

The poor things must be really frightened having been separated bless them. You did the right thing though, the last thing the poor wee girlie needs is to get preggars again!

Good luck at the vets hun, and trying to get more info from the old owners.
you have done a lovely thing taking them.....

From the buns....Thank you x x x

Why don't you ask the owners to foot the bill - a small price for getting rid of the responisibility.

Think of the health issues with mating brother and sister, really this person had no clue what he was doing with these poor bunnies. Probs fat with lack of excersice and poor diet.

Good for taking them on, although it just makes me so angry that you end up with the expense and the people who caused the problem just waltz off into the sunset.

yeah thats what mick said (about the expenses). They are both over weight and I tried to explain that they walk funny but the vet was a bit unsure lol. Ive got a clip of her to put on here when I can work it out.
Over all she is over weight, teeth fine, nails fine as I cut them yesterday, she is booked in for spay next friday he said he cant feel anything but just to be safe.

The lady told me she got the buns from a breeding farm, but the husband said the daughter got them off the internet??? something a miss here?
