At the farm!
Whilst my mum and I waited for Cookie after we dropped her at the specialist referrals vet, we came across a nearby farm and thought we'd go in to occupy our minds! It was very empty and I think we were the only ones without a pram lol
We came across a section of rabbits and I just wanted to share some of the pics as they were so cute and friendly. I really took to the white one in particular, she look's a bit like Jay's Stewie! She came up to the front and stood up to greet us and then let us rub her nose she was the mummy to all the babies..
Sorry lots of pics!
I kinda wish they all had proper homes though Although they all seemed happy enough and were safe.

Re: At the farm!
aww bless, Stewie's a mummy
I dunno, if they are warm, safe and well cared for, do they really need a home, as such? They kinda have one already, they are very adaptable creatures. The only that would concern me was lots of noisy youngsters around them. The museli mix is a shame, but TBH, I think the majority of buns are fed on it. Provided they eat plenty of hay and have lots of veg, i dont' think it's too bad, but pellets are a much better option.
They're lovely pics though, thanks for posting them

Re: At the farm!
She reminded me of Stewie straight away!
Yes I see your point about having a home, and they were in a quiet place in the farm. There were a couple of kids there that should have been told to be quieter but they didn't really stay in there for long so me and my mum were in there on our own giving them all a bit of fuss lol

Re: At the farm!
There's one of those childrens farms not far from me. I've never been, having no kids (Praise Be!).
Lil Loll came from a Country Park! Similar thing but, as he would be the first to point out, a tad classier!

I'm sorry but I hate these Farm places that keep rabbits and this is the reason why, wrong diet, babies in with their Mothers and other rabbits, and looking at some of the bunnies their coats don't look in great condition, it just makes me sad

I'm not against them in principle, if they can show how rabbits should be looked after properly, it may be the only opportunity some people get to see what the need to change at home. I can't comment on these rabbits diet, as I don't know how much veg and fresh food they get on top of their dry food. Dry food is only a supplement, whether it be museli or pellets. The babies in this instance will only just be ready for weaning this week, so will still be with their mother, albeit out of their nest, if there is one.
I just think things like this reflect the general ignorance out there. Ultimately, we know, but the problem is...why doesn't everyone know. You can hate these farms, but you must then also hate every owner that doesn't get it 'right' - to me it's a failing of the welfare groups that exclusively promote progressive rabbit knowledge through the web, and charged publications, and not by providing free information at pet stores. I would prefer that these groups diverted funds from say, proving something that already know, and research costs a lot of money, to changing the problem at source. Granted, the farm shoudl have a responsibility to do things 'right' but at least they aren't couped up in a tiny hutch, their accomm. looks clean and they have food - a lot better better than a lot of buns get.. But i do see your point x
Re: At the farm!
I don't mind them if they are run correctly and clean and tidy and have ample space for the bunnies to play but I haven't seen many nice ones to be honest, the ones I've seen have been awful, poor bunnies in with guinea pigs and poultry.
I didn't really mean the babies in with their Mum in that way I'm not good at wording things I mean seeing Mothers and their babies and other bunnies as well.
I am an owner myself that didn't get it right in the beginning and I am still making mistakes , I just don't like to see bunnies in this kind of environment which can be loud and not very nice for the bunny itself.

Re: At the farm!
Yes I can see your point about the farms and As I was looking at them
I was saying this could be better, bigger, they need more toys etc etc. They did have quite fair size pens though and the babies were only with the mother, the others had their own pens. It was a quiet day but I could see how it could get noisy on school trips or something.

Re: At the farm!
Perhaps you could offer to help them with their bunnies? Maybe write a letter or e-mail, and offer to go in and give some advice, there's lots of print out resources available on0line, and we could help if you like?
