Nuthanger Farm U/D 1st post
Since going to Watership Down in Spring, I've completely fallen in love with that part of the world, and we've been going there for walks quite regularly. We went on the 'Nuthanger walk' on Sunday, the Downs around Newbury are so beautiful! I was a bit star struck seeing Nuthanger farm!
You can see to the right of the shot the old barns are still there where the Does were in the cages. I didn't want to intrude too much cos the owners were milling around outside.
U/D and the original
and from the side
Outside the farm, we sat under one of these trees for an hour, I couldn't hear a thing, it was just so tranquil
And the view of Watership Down from here
And a silly

ps lee downloaded Bright Eyes for our ipods when Wobbles died. Is such a sad but beautiful song i can never listen to it without crying. i make myself sound like a right cry baby but I'm not - just find the film and song and stuff so emotive.

mmmm...I'm sensing an HH excursion coming on! MH, you're only an hour from me, Rachel, you could get there in an hour and Jill, well, you'll just have to come on down!
anyone else up for a Picnic on Watership Down sometime?
If you want to walk on the Down, then the nearest place is 'Kingsclere' It's on Google maps. You park on the road under it, where it says 'White Hill'racheld69 wrote:where is it??? how did you find out it was real?
If you want to see the farm as well then you park at Eccinswell, next village along and you can take the Nuthanger walk, which is where we were last Sunday.
I found out it was real when I mentioned it to someone a few years ago, and they told me it was. I didn't believe them TBH, but it is real, and the map that's in my edition (I presume it's in all of them?) is exactly as the map of the area. Adams grew up round there

I never realised Nuthanger Farm existed. What a beautiful part of the countryside Watership Down is - a HH picnic sounds perfect.
I have read and re-read Watership Down - one of my favourite books.
