Penny saving ideas! Empty Penny saving ideas!

Post by BunBun Fri Sep 30, 2011 4:21 pm

Hello everyone Wave

i am new to the forum, I have 2 Bun's who have a setup at my stables, one is a male fawn and white lionhead and the other is a wild bun (Long LONNNG storey he was born wild but hand reared as a pole cat had him and he needed care but got too used to dogs/humans/cats etc blah blah!)

Lionhead is called Russel and my wild bun is Ron.

I am also owned by 2 horses Alfie and Frank, 2 cats Stinky (Tinkerbelle) and Lilly, my faithful patterdale terrier Bobby and my 2 tanks of fish one cold water one tropical with Shrimps in Laughing

I am always keen to hear peoples money saving ideas for toys, fun things for the Bun's or money saving tips in general so thought I would start a post to hear your ideas!

Look forward to contributing as much as I can

Thank you Very Happy

The obvious Free Toys are cardboard boxes (large ones with cut-outs for entry/exit), kitchenroll/looroll tubes and twigs and fir cones. Some buns will love ripping old telephone directories or playing with towels/terry nappies or similar.

hi There,

Welcome to you all to HH.

Cant wait to hear more about your gorgeous boys and girls.

Buns like things they can throw, chew, roll and dig in.

A dig box is a really good idea as are loo roll tubes filled with hay and cardboard boxes to play in and chew - as much space as possible is a must.

Are your two buns bonded together?

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and join in the chatter x xx x

I use a large carboard box filled with pellet type litter - which the buns don't have in their litter tray. Flo loves digging in it.

Hi & Welcome to HH Wave

Our's love yogurt pots as they can pick them up and toss them about, loo rolls stuffed with hay, plastic plant pots all sizes stuffed with hay, old towels that they can bunch up and if you hang a towel off a chair they just love to go under it Smile

Ahhh the plant pots sound fab didnt think of those!

I have some plastic crates in there runs that the farmers use to pick the Jersey Royals! there fab and make good platforms they can be stacked and click together so no end of possibilities! Currently have one with a spongebob square pants fleece over it Laughing I use them to stack as horse jumps too!

No there not bonded, the wild Bun has always been alone they can however see each other through the run and from hutch to hutch, they both seem quite happy living in this arrangment so I am not to fussed about them living together for the foresseable future.

A dig box is also a lovely idea! I have a pile of bedding in one corner that Russ digs up but a box of earth would be fab thankfully my buns are in a stable that i converted (Winter house) so flinging soil everywhere isn't an issue Laughing

Yoghurt pots is also another fab idea! thank you Very Happy

Winter set up is a 12x12 stable split into 2 runs summer set up will be quite a bit bigger as have the whole top yard area that sits idle to use.

Have some phots will upload them tonight

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! X

Welcome to the Forum! Look forward to hearing more about your lovely big family.

I'm in the process of making a dig tray, a simple gravel tray filled with DIY top soil (as recommended by the lovely folk on this forum)

Stuff the kitchen roll tubes with hay, this makes it more exciting for them.
