Archie's new friend Empty Archie's new friend

Post by alicia Fri Oct 07, 2011 2:01 pm

I know people won't agree with me getting a new friend for Archie so soon, but I can't spend very much time with him because I'm at college for most of the day, so I thought it was important that he had a friend, so I went back to the rescue and got Izzy, she's very sweet and they get on so well. They are now bonded and living together in the hutch, I've seen them both binky too Smile

I'm going to seem really horrible but I don't like her in the same way I like Archie and Molly Sad She's very quiet and scared, and I think with time she'll be a lovely little rabbit, but I keep thinking about how much I'd rather have Molly back. I know I can't, and I know it's not Izzy's fault, and she deserves a home, but just before I took her home the man at the rescue told me that Izzy was found in the road, which made me feel really sad because that's how Molly died Sad

I felt exactly the same when Jem had to be pts earlier this year. We brought Flora home to be with Flopsy and it made him much happier.

She grows more and more on me everyday, well except when she's digging Rolling Eyes

As far as I am concerned if it's making another bunny happy it's never to early to get another companion for them and as for you not liking Izzy as much as Molly I'm sure we have all been through that at sometime or another with a new bun...but you will like her, at the moment you are still missing Molly and it's all fresh in your mind in time you will learn to love Izzy just as much, don't forget she has to get to know you like you have got to get to know her, she is a very beautiful bunny love her markings on her face Love Love

I can see she is nervous in the photos but it's still early days Hugs

OMG She is gorgeous Love And Archie is obviously very taken by her too.

Years ago when I had bunnies, my first bunny died while having a dental. When I got my second it took me ages to bond with him "because hes not Dylan". In the end I grew to love him for being him, but it did take a while. So don't beat yourself up about it, it will come. You've done the right thing

Yes, I think everyone gets that feeling - "He/she isn't the same as..."
I got it after Barney went and we got Joey. I missed him like hell (still do) and it was hard getting used to a new bun (even though I knew they'd be different).

It's fab you have got a friend for Archie, and he seems to be settling in with Izzy really well so that will help him massively Smile

You will grow to love Izzy and get used to her and her traits, it will take time as you are still grieving x

I dont think anyone would say they dont agree with you getting a new friend for Archie, you have done a wonderful thing for him hun, you dont have to defend yourself here - ever.

I can understand why you dont feel as close to Izzy hun, Molly's loss is still so raw. Give yourself some time hun, you will grow to love her for different reasons than you loved Molly, and she will make Archie happy too, and you will love her for that.

Its hard that she was found in the road, bringing back painful memories - but perhaps Molly sent her to you - you couldn't help Molly, but you can help this little girl instead.

Sending hugs for you Alicia, and nose rubs to Archie and Izzy. She really is beautiful.

No one is judging you for getting another bun so soon after Molly. You have done what every animal owner should do and put the animals needs before your own. I'm sure Molly would understand, she wouldn't want to see Archie sad and lonely either Hugs

She is absolutely beautiful Love and I'm sure she is a wonderful little girl who you are going to love for being her. She's not there to replace Molly, no bun ever could, but Archie needs her and she needs you.

Please don't feel guilty, Im sure Molly wouldn't want you to feel like that Hugs

You have done exactly what I would have done and in fact, did do! When Wolfie lost his first partner, Holly, I got Gloria to keep him company because I could see he missed company. However, I didn't really like her at all. she was a lot more bossy than Holly had been and I really objected to her pushing Wolfie around in HIS home when she was the newcomer.

Those feelings gradually went and I came to love her so much and was absolutely devastated when she died. She became everyone's favourite, even my friends who don't lie rabbits!

What you are feeling is really normal and will pass. Hugs Hugs
