Advice Please Hoppers
Do you think if Mike made large hutches and runs to sell he would make a living at it as the boarding is very quiet at the moment and he has been looking at jobs but there is nothing round here he did think about advertising as a handyman but there are 6 already advertised in our local village shop .
He is thinking about making hutches and runs he has just got to look into carriage charges and the shipping side of it.
What do you think Hoppers

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
If he can make them and sell them at good prices, i think its a fantastic idea. You might not even have to advertise, knowing so many bunny people, word spreads quickly.
Id certainly be interested.

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
Look into materials costs, traders insurance as well, just to make sure it all works out worth your while. Ask around local if there is interest in them, he can also make dog kennels if there isnt enough interest for bunny hutches. Cat cosey houses aswell, these are starting to hit off. Bird tables/houses. Just anything wood/building related give it a bash. What about maybe doing folks gardens during winter, elderly, if he is able to. Maybe help keep them clear during the bad weather for small charge. xx

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
yea i say go for it Mike!! Esspecually with his fab cut out rabbit shapes, if a hutch looks nice, people will be a bit more willing to pay more for it, and especually if it is a decent size!
and not a bad idea by dizzylynn about dog kennels and cat houses etc!! If there is one thing that is for sure in britan it is that we are all softies when it comes to our pets, and will happily buy them something pretty!!

If he can do it well and make it cost effective, then why not! The RWAF have a retailers charter. he could sign up to that and get a commendation. They also give free leaflets to Co's who sign up.
You'd need a website etc, these days

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
oooo Im getting excited I hope he does start and do all the bunny stuff, There is a lad on ebay that makes the basic runs 5x4x2foot and most of the time they go for £35, The people on my page like to pay about £30-£40 for a hutch depending on size. I had a guinea pig hutch I sold for £20 it came with one of the rabbit which it was way to small for so I put her in one of the big ones and just sold hers and people were fine to pay £20 it was about 3foot 22" wide and 22" high.
Just giving you some rough guidelines of what people want, but as I say people are always wanting them through here so If mike has a van or car maybe he could do a trip a week to drop off say charge £5 delivery and drop off as many as he can in that day or night??? I would happily post pics of finished items on my page for you xxx

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
However, £30 should not get you a decent hutch. I reckon if Mike devised a delux hutch that was pre-insulated and linoed painted etc in addition to standard hutches that there may be a market there. You would have to have them made to order though.

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
it seems to be a competetive market as rabbits seem to be the in pet lately, but in saying that although people look at prices the quality that you would supply would be better.

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
I feel that £30 - £40 is not a good price, if your only willing to pay that I feel your not really thinking about the rabbits, please dont be offended anyone, but I paid £99 for my charlies house then all the bits added another 50 on top it max £150. I was looking at hutches at about £140 online not the ones at 40, I will admit I was stingy with my 1st rabbit and paid £45.00 for a cheap heap hutch from argos, it was the worst thing I have ever bought and I wasnt thinking of the rabbit I was thinking of my purse, not making that mistake again.

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
[b]I have been running my own busnesses since 1982 and at the moment it is very hard probably the worst I have ever known it. I gave up my industrial electrical contracting 2 months ago to expand on my hoby of dismantaling cars and selling the parts but it is very hard getting established at the moment. I would say that if your hubby can purchase the materials at the right price and is prepaired to put in decent hours then why not have a go I wish him all the best and hope it is sucesfull if you need any delivery contacts let me know I mostly sell on line and have all my parts sent out by corier and pallatised delivery service Good Luck to you both

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
Maybe cost effectiveness would be making it from recycled materials if possible?? Not sure if that would work necessarily..but everyone's all about the eco these days so that would give it an appeal x

Re: Advice Please Hoppers
I think it would be fantastic! It's so hard to find good hutches!! Might be worth getting in touch with someone like John Hopewell, who makes chinchilla cages to see how he works profits, materials costs etc for some advice. I'm sure he is based in Yorkshire and he is such a lovely man I'm sure he would help
