Ginge being strange

Ginge is a strange bun anyways, but last night i was determined to get his cage cleaned the best I could considering my back was killing, as most know Im possitive ginge is deaf, no doubt about it. So I opend the hutch last night and he was facing away from me, Ive gotta wait till he turns round cos I dont wanna frighten him so I sat for 5 mins while he faced the corner looking at something, it was as if he was bewildered by what was there, in the end I slightly touched his tail and her literaly jumped in the air and span round . I thought a rat may have got in his cage and he had it pinned or something but when I looked there was nothing there . He was ok after that but when I put him back in he was still staring at the corner? any ideas??
