Bits n bobs I made for the critters on the animal unit...
I didnt go on my placement to the vets today as i wasnt very well. I eventually got bored sat on my todd and made this little lot for the Jirds and Guinea Pigs at college. Its for "Animal Health", were doing it until January and my friend and I have 3 Persian Jirds and 6 guinea pigs to look after. We have to health check and weigh every single animal, feed, clean out and then provide different ways of enriching their lives. In January we have to do a report on it. We have too many animals to be able to make toys and give them things to do, so i made a load at home today...
For the piggies:
and the jirds:
Its nothing too fancy, but the piggies get more things as their enclosure is just boring! I also made a triangular feeding station with C&C grids. We can put hay in and it has an over hanging lid to hang food from. Will probably put some of their food into the treatballs and stuff the guinea pigs t.roll tubes and cardboard box with hay.
I feel really sorry for some of the animals in there...the rabbits all have space and company though, thankfully.

House bricks are really good for piggies. The ones with the holes in them. You can hide food in the holes for them and put a plank on top to provide a hidey place.

Ill mention it to my friend, she might have a house brick lying around. All ours are engineering bricks.

Aww Sophia they are great and it just goes to show what you can make without spending money and they will have so much fun with them. Those animals will be so much happier because of you

the jirds are quite happy little chappies, so funny to watch! The guinea pigs seem a bit left out and have nothing to explore. I think they have mites or some post of skin condition too as their skin is quite dry and some have irregular bald patches. I reported it though, but working with them makes me miss my piggies.

Yeah I think they look a bit like gerbils and a bit like degus. Extremely fast and very curious though! I was scared of them for the first few weeks, but managed to get over it this week and handle them...someone had to sooner or later cos noone else in my group will pick them up to examine them, we looked a bit silly carrying them around in hamster balls!!
