rabbit and cat friendship??
Magnum is my first ever house bunny, he came to live with us nearly 3 weeks ago. He's now part of a family consisting of me, my partner and our son. As well as our dog 4 year old alfie, and our cat 8 month old mitzy.
I'm just wondering how can u tell if your rabbit feels comfortable with other pets?? my main concern is my cat mitzy. The thing is she follows him every where, if he's running about binkying she jumps about him too, which then makes him stop. On occasion she tries to hit him, although her claws are always retracted, its almost like she's trying to get his attention....I am 100 percent sure she is only trying to play with him as the behaviour i've seen is how she acts with our dog too when they play, however they do play rough
Sometimes i wonder whether her behaviour bothers magnum at all.....Some times when i hear running and thumping my first instict is accuse the cat but on more than 1 occasion i have found magnum chasing the cat! Also when mitzy is chasing the rabbit i tell her off, then magnum turns round and chases her! Magnum even sits with his back to her, i've heard this is a sign of trust as a scared rabbit wont turn his back, they sit with there back to a wall watching?!
Ive caught her sat in his pen on more than 1 occasion, i do try to keep this pet and person free as i feel magnum should have some where to go to feel safe, but try as i might i have found the cat sat in there. Magnum again has his back to her and is eating his food.!
I suppose its just the chasing and tapping on mitzy's part that worries me....do u think she is terrorising him? I dont want the poor little mite to be scared.

Re: rabbit and cat friendship??
Is there anyway you could put netting or something on the top of his pen to keep the cat out? Even if it was unintentional you don't want her to hurt him, especially if there isn't anywhere he can hide in there.

Re: rabbit and cat friendship??
there is a net that i got with the pen that just sits over the top. But mitzy would still be able to get in the side door. As i have to leave it open so magnum can get in and out otherwise he would be stuck in his pen all day, and now he's litter trained i like him to have full run of the house.
Its difficult, i dont want mitzy to feel pushed out, but i dont want magnum to feel frightened.
The dog, alfie, on the other hand really couldnt give a monkies! I've found magnum curled up in his big bushy tail, magnum even use alfie as a perch to gain access to the sofa...Alfie just looks at him like...'i'm sleeping little furry 1' Oh and alfie cleans magnum...magnum looks a mess afterwards but he must love it as he pushes his head up so alfie can get him better....
I just wish him and mitzy could be like that
