Normal to bite bars?
Came downstairs this morning to let magnum out and ive notice whilst sat here that he keeps biting the bars of his pen?? The same two bars. Hes never done this before...Ive tried moving him away, distracting him and firmly telling him no, but he's not listening...no suprises there.
And ideas of what he's doing and why?? Also how do i get him to stop?

Re: Normal to bite bars?
It's usually a boredom/frustration thing TBH. Buns wake up earlier than we do, and he may just have literally been 'biting to get out'! May have been particularly hungry too.
One thing I would suggest, is that if you hear him biting the bars, don't release him straight away, or else he'll learn that this action commands your attention, and you may find yourself up at 5 a.m. with a bar biting bunny...
See if he carries on with it over the next few days, but don't pay him any attention whilst he does it. Release him only when he's stopped biting, let him out and then feed him.
Not a lot you can do to stop it except perhaps increase the space he has -if poss?, provide more toys, etc.
Keep us posted too!

Mine do this sometimes, normally when they want me to let them out..or want to make a racket so I get up to feed them!! I wouldn't think it's any kind of serious problem. Have you got willow balls or anything like that for him to chew? They might distract him. Or toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay

Re: Normal to bite bars?
I did think it was maybe coz he was bored or frustrated....but i'd already opended the door!! When i came in the room he was stood at the door of the pen waiting to come out. It was after this that he started at the bars!!!
I fed him his pellets, changed the hay and litter tray and he was still doing it, altho he has stopped now. Im thinking maybe he was just grumpy this morning
He has a willow ring, a wooden log thing stuffed with a carrot mix thing, he has loads of toilet tubs, wicker balls etc but he doesnt seem to play with any of them unless there stuffed with food!
I know there is nothing wrong with his teeth as he was only at the vets the other week for a check up and she said his teeth where fine.
Im thinking he was just in a bad mood this morning! haha

Radar & Splash do it even when the cage is open and they have free roam. I think its something teeth related, since they have plenty of toys to gnaw on.

Re: Normal to bite bars?
I have the same thing. Every so often my bun goes mad for just two bars of his cage. And like Magnum he has all the gnawing goodies, just sometimes prefers the bars.
I'm sure it's something that won't last forever. And if it does, hopefully it won't do anny harm, I can't see why it would.
Don't worry too much, I'm sure it'll be ok! x

Rosie does that whenever she needs to be penned in. To her, it's just another game and makes a fab rattly noise

Re: Normal to bite bars?
I have stacked the bars in the cage here with cardboard. The buns love to have a chew and pull on them and it makes for a quieter life!
you can see the stack in this photo.

yea buttons quite often will be sat outside his cage (the door wide open and sat right by the door!) and start biting the bars from the outside!! I think he does just like the sound!! as buttons doesn't have anything wrong with his teeth either!! just one of those odd things ive accepted he does!!

Thumper uses to do this when her cage was open too. She always looked like she was really enjoying it
Strangely, she hasn't done it since I got her her new cage.
