Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
As you know, she was spayed today. Ive just got her settled in her crate with a hay rack, some herbs and a nice thick fleece. Turns out the poor girl was pregnant with 4 kits, which we obviously aborted. I know many of you wont agree, but it was probably the best thing for her. Shes been through enough without having to raise kits, and there are also enough rabbits needing homes.
Also, remember i said one of her eyes looked red? Well once shed fully come around and was back on her feet and a bit less sleepy, one of her eyes was glazed over with mucous. I asked a vet to look at it and we flushed her tear ducts and she has some fucithalmic gel to put in for the next two weeks.
Despite everything, shes doing better than i expected and has eaten some herbs and even some hay! Poor little girl :'( I feel so sorry for her, but i know shes going to have a fantastic life ahead of her when shes ready.
Please can she have some healing vibes? And is there anything i need to look out for behaviour wise after loosing her kit? ie Can it have a psychological affect on her? x

Oh poor girl, bless her!! personally I agree with your decision about the kits, she has been through so much already, and there is so many rabbits needing homes at the moment!!
I hope she recovers well and that her eye gets better too!! Sending her lots of healing vibes!!
Sadly I can't help with how she will/may act re losing her kits, but I'm sure someone will know!!

Re: Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
Aw, poor Maggie - she really has been through it, hasn't she? But as you say hopefully this is the start of a wonderful new life for her
I wouldn't expect any particular problems from losing the kits, it's not uncommon for such a pregnancy not to go full-term for other reasons anyway...
Healing vibes for the pretty girl

Re: Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
Thanks for the vibes everyone, they're certainly working! Shes eating really well! Not touching her hay, but she will eat anything that smells strong like readigrass and herbs. Shes just sat in the litter tray, and has dug all of her soft fleece up 3 times now!
Her eye is very weepy. How odd that its suddenly gone from a bit of "sleep" in the eye this morning to full on gunk post op. I suppose the anaesthetic will make her feel rundown, letting the eye infection take hold?
Apart from that, shes fine at the moment. Even lurched forward for her readigrass and dried herbs Ill give her some more herbs before bed and see how she is in the morning.

Poor girl, she's in the best hands possible
I'm sorry about the kits, it can't be easy - and I think you did the right thing, she doesn't need that stress at the mo

I think you did the right thing, although it must have been hard. Sending her lots of vibes for a quick recovery - although it sounds like she is going to be fine. Hope her eye heals up fast and she gets a lovely new home soon.

Re: Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
Poor Maggie Bless her but you certainly did the right thing as she has been through enough. I don't think she will miss her kits as she didn't give birth to them, had she given birth to them and washed them it may have been a different story but as it is I think you will find she will be ok .

Oh my! Bless her heart! Bless your heart! You made a difficult decision. I think you made the right one. With all the other problems her little body may not have been able to take the stress and they would be gone anyway and her too.
If she has never had kits before she won't know. She'd just think it was from the surgery. Poor, dear little one. Healing vibes coming her way!

Re: Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
I just dread to think what would have happened had she had them on the tip :'( It really upsets me, and i wish i could find out who did it. Id be so angry with them, but just want to show them what ive been through with her in the last 3 weeks because of their cruelty and heartlessness. Im so proud of her, shes coping much better than my 3 have and shes been through so much more! They didnt deserve her, shes lovely
I get sickened off with the cases i hear about, but it really hits home once youve experienced it for yourself As for the big well known animal charity, im apauled at their response to the Wilton Lane Bunnies, had we left it to them, Maggie, Annie and Stig would have died out there :'(
ETA: Her eyes look much better this morning, just a little red. And she was nesting. I found her nest in the run shelter this morning, now i feel bad, as i probably wouldnt have known they were there! She doesnt go to the toilet in it, so it only gets opened up and cleaned out once a week.

Oh poor little girl, what a hard start in life she had!
It must have been a tough decision to make.
I had no idea buns could have kits aborted, don't know why I never thought about that before.

Re: Poor Maggie :( She was pregnant
Personally I think you did the right thing. There are so many baby bunnies in the world, and poor Maggie didn't need to suffer through any more stress.
Re the nest, just remember buns make nests all the time without actualy being pregnant, I don't think she'll suffer much without the babies.
ETA: the shelter I adopted Bruce from has an abortion policy (if you can call itthat) where if they take a rabbit in for desexing unless the babies are very well along they will abort. They are already flooded with unwanted adult bunnies.
