Re: Vibes
I think you mean cannula rather than catheter - unless you have a very unusual bun?
Bruce had on on his last dentals - it was part of the anaesthesia and whatever was used it certainly seemed to be an improvement when he came around. It is taking a long time for the fur to regrow on his ear though.

Re: Vibes
About the 'catheter': In humans a catheter can be a number of things in addition to the urinary kind that is often talked about. We use a suction catheter to suck secretions out of endo-tracheal tubes(breathing tubes). Patients sometimes will have catheters placed so that staff can apply suction to so that they can drain fluid/blood/infection/etc. It's just a guess, but perhaps they had the catheter in the ear to help facilitate drainage and possibly put a solution in(like an antibiotic), let it dwell for a time, then suction it out with any other debris from the infection. Just a guess.

Re: Vibes
my understanding is that catheters drain and cannulas put stuff in. Based on Bruce's recent sojourn to the vets I think that part of the anaesthetic is put in through a vein and on buns the ear one is the easiest to use. I read up a bit about it after he came home because I wasn't really expecting a nude ear and I wanted to know what had happened!

The ear would be ideal for an IV. Thumper's ear veins are huge. But poor bunny with a shaved ear! I think Thumper would be so embarrassed to have nude ear! He's finicky about his ears. Sometimes after he cleans them he wants to have the fur smoothed down or at least that is what we think he is asking!
