There is a lot of info on it floating around. If your buns have previously had the separate jabs you need to clarify whether the information leaflet now states that the buns will get full VHD coverage. Last I heard tests were on going to establish this.

Thanks -just spoken to the vet and she is ringing their teccy line. She heard it was rabbits who had previously had a myxi jab but not VHD couldn't now have the combined one jab - lots of confusion! anyway, hopefully she is calling them and will get the answers!

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
It is the old myxi jab that interacts with the new vhd bit and makes it less effective.

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
So if they have had the old vaccines this one wont be as effective?
Im interested to know more about this, might have to give my vets a call.

There is thought that the new vaccine will be fine but the manufacturers have not proved this yet and their info sheet still says there is an issue.

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
hi - my vet rang and said she had spoken to the manufacturer's teccy team and they had just had some results back from recent tests and the only issue raised was giving the vaccine to rabbits who had previously had myxi - they would need to of these jabs a few weeks apart...am going to discuss further with her tonight when she comes over...

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
ok i asked her about whether she talked to them about reduced protection in pre vaccinated buns and this is what they told her:
Yes they did. Their new research which has only just released shows that the response mounted is plenty for rabbits previously vaccinated with nobivac myxo. It is only rabbits who have recovered from previous myxo that need 2 vaccines 2 weeks apart. This is very new information so the forums will most likely not be aware.

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
Has anybody else's rabbit had this new vaccine yet?
I had Eloise vaccinated with it on Tuesday, she's had no previous vaccinations (or at least I assume not, I've only just acquired her and she's 10 months old, seems highly unlikely previous owners would have bothered).
I just really wanted to report no side-effects obvious so far - still bright, lively and good appetite. It cost £38 compared to previous charge for myxi of approx £25.

Ouch was my reaction too. Because I get discount for taking more than one bun to same consultation, I've lined them up where possible and I reckon to spend £50 - 60 per bun (8 in total) for vaccinations. So, £38 is a good saving on that but if there's no discount for more than one bun at the end of May I will have 4x £38 to find on one go

Jack had it last week, and has not displayed any adverse affects.
His cost just under £17

£17 *gulps* I love my vets too
...but I shall be checking the price of the vaccination at the local vets. If there's that much price difference I may be considering vaccination at local vets and at 6 month interval a health check at rabbit vet. I only started going to specialist for vaccinations because one local vet was fairly incompetent and she didn't health check plus I didn't believe she did the intradermal bit with the myxi vacc (no long an issue) AND they wouldn't get Lapinject for us instead of Cylap. (I won't have my bunnies vaccinated with Cylap). So, if they are competitive now .... I may have some decisions to make - I know which local vets to book with.

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
Im confused...... does anyone know........mine have all had the old Myxi and the old VHD.....
Will the new one offer them protection from both?
Also - Daisy hasnt had his most recent VHD because of his illness.......where do we stand on him having this joint vaccine??

Depending on what you read, whether it's the latest version or indeed the correct version! I think:
If they have had both vaccinations (or just one, either one) then yes, the new vaccine will protect them (nothing has been proved otherwise, at least). It was the European myxi vaccination that's different to ours that caused some of the concern as they wouldn't be protected but the UK myxi vacc was different therefore previous use of it doesn't affect the new one.
*In theory* rabbits previously not vaccinated for VHD can be vaccinated with the new one as it isn't as hard on them (or whatever the technical speak is for that). I'd definitely want the advice of a good rabbit vet on that one though.

Re: Nobivac Myxo-RHD - UPDATED with new research findings
I think from what Rachel was saying about her vets investigation the company have now proved that pre-vaccinated rabbits will be adequately covered by the new joint vaccine.

Yes that is right - everyone is covered (whether vaccinated or not etc etc) apart from rabbits that have had the actual myxi disease who will need 2 of the new vaccines a couple of weeks apart.x
