list of veg please
Need a list of safe vegs, I am running out of veg on a daily basis and theres not enough variaty I can buy that keeps for most of the week, so have to go down daily which is just a pain.
I also need to stop buying the big bags of carrotts as its just to easy to give them to many, rosie has had to many lately so its time to take a break from carrott and find more options that keep for a good 3 - 4 days in the fridge. Any suggestions.
They like, corriander, parsly, spring onion, celery, lambs lettace, rocket saled, baby spinach which is not given often, I have tried kail but charlie turned his nose up at it. Can they eat red and green peppers, brocelli. I did have a list but cant find it.

Re: list of veg please
Oh and also baby sweetcorn and greenbeans they seem to like them, I wont buy frozen and expect them to eat that to many presservatives added to freeze them. They also get a wee bit of fruit once a week, either apple which they just love or grapes, charlie likes a wee bit of banana but not tried that on other 2 yet.

Romaine lettuce is on the RWA list but we never fed lettuce at all to our buns.

Re: list of veg please
My understanding is, that you shouldn't feed any kind of onion to buns. I don't think baby sweetcorn is good for them either.
Please someone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Re: list of veg please
Rabbits can have Baby Sweetcorn it's the horrid dry hard treat ones they really shouldn't have as they can choke on the kernals.
I am talking about the tiny sweetcorn not the big ones and just a little as a change.

Re: list of veg please
Baby corns are on the safe list, they get them once a month, and green beans once a month, mostly they get the leavy rocket saled bags, parsley bags, corriander bunches and carrats, but feel its not giving them enough variaty and they also dont keep long I use a full bag + 2/3rds of salad and a few hand fulls of the herbs in one day, rudy (my beardie) gets the other 1/3rd of the bag thats left. But the dates are usually only a day or 2 and i find if I keep them close to there dates they dont look nice and fresh.

Re: list of veg please
They treats are full of sugar anyway I dont use any of them at all, I try to give them fresh veg, if they get a treat its a special bag of hay with the dandiloins in it from pets at home, or a wee tiny bit of fruit.

Onions are poisonous to most animals, and in rabbits onions can cause anaphlaxis ( allergic reaction that can cause death)

Re: list of veg please
I actually read that tomatos were dangerous but there on the list, I dont offer them tho. I dont worry about fruit they dont need it that often and the kids eat tones of fruit so always got fruit when its time to give them a wee treat of fruit. I also thought citris food would be too acidic fo them too.

Re: list of veg please
It was horrible. The vet thought at the time that it was the start of a blockage, but because she didn't get too many they managed to sort her out with meds.
That was the first time my boss came to the vet with me, because I really thought she was going to die
Maybe it was just a freak situation. She was a very old lady after all.

Between three buns, it sounds to me like you are giving them far too much veg, to be honest.dizzylynn wrote:I use a full bag + 2/3rds of salad and a few hand fulls of the herbs in one day

From 3 Bunnies Rescue:
Foods to avoid feeding your rabbit:
Beets (sugary)
Breakfast cereals
Chocolate (NEVER give this to any pet - it is poisonous to most)
Corn (rabbits can't digest the hulls of the corn kernels)
Diatomaceous Earth - this is made from finely ground shells, and even the highest quality can have edges which act like razor blades against the thin lining of a rabbits stomach lining. Do not use for food or litter.
Fresh peas
Grains
Green beans (can cause gas)
Iceberg lettuce (and any light green lettuce leaves - they are high in water content but low in nutrients and may cause diahrrea) - can be gven in small amounts or when you have no other greens to offer, but watch the output for soft stools
Legumes
Nuts
Onions (see this page)
Pelleted food with seeds mixed in (it's a treat to the bunnies but the seeds cause stomach problems)
Potatoes (white or red)
Seeds of any kind
Starches of any kind
sugar, in any form (small quantities of treats are allowed, but no more than a tablespoon of fruit or raisins or anything containing any types of sugar)
Foods that contain compounds that destroy nutrients:

Re: list of veg please
I agree on the no onions, not even salad onions. It is variety daily that is the best for buns. Mine have a small amount of greens, a little bit of rocket, a little bit each of parsley, coriander, sometimes chervil, mint, basil or tarragon. usually a slice of fennel. I expect a packet of rocket and the packets of herbs to last 4 days. This time of year is a good time to go out foraging for fresh shoots of bramble etc as well.
