Pre spay vet consultation?
Do they normally go for one one? I'm so out of practice with all this! Junior got one, but we were there for vaccinations anyway.
I think I would prefer one...
Thanks for any feedback
Edit: Obviously, Junior wasn't spayed, but you know what I mean

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
I think they should, so that she can be checked over - made sure she is heavy enough etc.
I dont know if id be happy if they didnt - but I dont know if all vets do.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Thanks Katie. I'm thinking along the exact same lines as you.
I phoned and got diverted to the animal hospital and the woman on the phone said no I hope she's got it wrong, like you say, how do they know she's heavy enough? And what if she was a little under the weather? (Not that she is!)
I'm going to phone back my own branch at 2!

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
We have never had one but then they are usually weighed and given a check up before a spay/neuter is done.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Ah! Ok... If the woman is right and they don't do consultations beforehand, I will ask if weighing and checking them over is part of their procedure before they do it.
Thanks

It should be our vet's have alway's weighed them and checked their hearts beforehand and made sure that they were healthy enough to operate on

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Thank Maysie I will see what my branch says when they take the phones back at 2pm.
If I'm not happy with their answers, I will just demand a consultation

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Tigger was the right age for her spey when it came to vaccinations so we had the check there and then.
Then the day we took her in for it they gave her another one to make sure.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Thanks guys
I just phoned again and the lady at my branch made me feel much better She said they get a full check before they do the op and if they aren't happy with her, they will not do it
I asked if the vet would refuse to do it if he thought she was too little and/or needed a bit more time and she said "Absolutely".
So feeling a *bit* better about it.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
I'm still really nervous for her but yes, I do feel a bit better about it.
Can't wait for it to be over. Roll on Friday when it's all over and she will hopefully be eating etc.

We are getting our bunnies spayed and neutered on wednesday and we havent been for a seperate check up however the vet said shed look at the bunnies before hand and check them over. Is that ok?

I don't have your number x
That sounds like what I have been told Apparently they have to give them a thorough check beforehand.Bunnylover<3 wrote:We are getting our bunnies spayed and neutered on wednesday and we havent been for a seperate check up however the vet said shed look at the bunnies before hand and check them over. Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Yeah Tigger had a thorough check beforehand (gave me an excuse for a cuddle too!) They asked lots of questions as well like her behaviour and any sneezing etc, the usual. I hope both your vets are just as thorough but I'm sure they will be.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
This has been a good thread. We are trying to find a TRULY bunny savvy vet. We've discovered that some here claim to be, but doing "5 neuters and 2 spays in a YEAR" does not seem to me to be near enough. "Oh, yes! One of our vets sees rabbits! He saw one just 2 months ago!" Grrrrrrr.
We had to pass up a delightful lop because we hadn't had Thumper neutered yet. Poor thing. Someone dumped her on these people's porch because they raise rabbits......for meat.

Re: Pre spay vet consultation?
Sending positive pre-spay vibes for the beautiful and adventurous Molly!
For some reason all of her antics remind me of Angelina Jolie as the action
movie heroine Laura Croft! I wish you could have a bunny cam on them while
you are out so we could all see her adventures. You'd have the basis for
a YouTube video that would go viral because of her being so adorable and
creative in her stunts!

It is such a nice feeling when you get reassurance from someone when a baby is poorly. I am sending lots of huggles and vibes too.
