Ripped claw Empty Ripped claw

Post by Dotdot Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:34 pm

Walked in and found blood in the hutch. Picked Jeeves up and he has ripped a claw off. There's only a tiny bit of claw left. Bleeding has stopped and he is eating. He seems to have done it on the ramp.

What can I use to clean it? Will it be ok?

Yes boil some water, add some salt and let it cool down and just bathe it and see how Jeeves goes.

Thanks to you both Thumbs Up
I'm wary of giving more antibiotics in such a small space of time, he had some 2 weeks ago and I read somewhere buns shouldn't have antibiotics too often?

When I saw blood I thought oh my god have they had a fight now?!

Poor Jeeves! He's had it all come at once.

I'm keeping him inside tonight so it can heal without getting any dirt in it.

Thumper ripped one of hers off on the way to the vet once and she wasn't given ABX. They just bandaged it up. The bandage lasted all of 10 mins Laughing

Have had that happen several times! First time with Lady Love I thought she was bleeding to death with an arterial injury. Blood squirting everywhere she jumped! Took an entire bottle of hydrogen peroxide to get it out of the carpet and off the walls!

My vet, after they quit laughing at my tale, hydrogen peroxide to bubble out anything that might have gotten in before the initial clot, then rinse with normal saline(salt water). Bandage didn't stay on her either.

This happened with Snuffie and there was so much blood, I was terrified. I bathed it with warm salt water too. I am sure he will be fine love.
